Here are some pictures of a 69 that I am doing for a friend. It will have a 502 ramjet motor, turbo 400 w/ gear vendors overdrive, 12 bolt 373 gear, DSE quadralink rear suspension, Heidts tubular A-Arms 1" narrowed, Baer disc brakes, DSE dash, Budniks 430 18" rims.

It will have leather interior with newer ( 2000 ) camaro front and rear seats with a custom console from the front dash to the the back seats. I just got it painted and finished the final paint on the front and rear suspension.

I have replaced both quarter panels with nos panels / back window valance and welded all the seams. Removed and smoothed the drip rails. Removed all the marker lights and dash speaker.

I was looking through your progress pics and I was wondering if you have anymore pics of the the shaved drip rails after adding the round rod? What is the purpose of the round rod? I am very impressed with your work. I live in Oklahoma and if your looking in starting another project I have one for you :).

Dustin,

The main reason for the rod is it makes a nice edge when you cut off the drip rail. Also if you feel under the drip rail you will see it is offset down and that offset covers the chrome molding that holds the upper window rubber seal. When you cut the drip rail off it becomes 2 pieces of metal and that offset is gone. You will have the roof metal and the bottom door jamb structure to weld back together. You have to weld them all the way across the seam. It is alot of work. The roof has a small offset on the edge and that has to be body worked smooth. I have seen it done with the offset on it but I like the smooth look. The rod adds 3/16" to the roof lip which will help cover the chrome molding. I am also going to paint the chrome molding semi flat black to match the rubber so it looks like one piece. The chrome molding on the quarter window will also be pained to match the rubber molding.

Thanks for the offer on doing another car but after 4 years working on and off on it I am ready for a break.

Wayne,

Thanks for the compliment but I cant take credit for the paint. I did all the sheetmetal replacement and body work. I had Lakewood Car Clinic & Collision in Houston paint it. The painter and graphics guy did a excellent job. The red is called bright red and it is a GM color. I am at work and dont have the code but I think it was GM paint code 81.

It has been a while since I posted some pictures. The motor and trans is in. Fuel tank mounted and lines ran to the motor. A/C mounted under the dash and starting to install the lines inside the car. I will need to install the front sheetmetal to fab up the rest of the lines. Brake lines are installed.

We ordered the Billet Specialities short valve covers and had them chromed. I installed them and asked my son how they look. He says something is wrong with the passenger side. Me and my buddy (the guy that owns the car didnt even notice it ). When they cast the vavle covers they only made one casting. It is round in the front and slanted in the back for booster clearance. When you install the passenger side the slant is in the front. Looks like SH$T. So we have $500.00 in valve covers that we arent going to use. Called Billet Specialities about them and that is how they make them. I looked at another set my friend has and they are the same. We are going to have the GM ones chromed.

Next is wiring the Ram Jet and start on the front sheet metal. The car is coming along nicely.

Here is some pictures:

Beautiful work Mike!. Amazing attention to detail. I love the red too.

Whats the black box under the dash in the glovebox area (heater? or ?)? And where are you going to mount the coil under the dash? I was going to put my coil under the dash but am having a hard time deciding where.

That is the Vintage Air A/C under the dash. I am going to mount the coil under the dash. You can see the bulkhead in the firewall. The Ramjet also has a wiring harness that is designed to be mounted outside but I am going to mount everything under the dash with the coil.

I am going to mount a plate off the bracket where the ash tray was and mount the coil and relays for the Ramjet.

Dave,

The March setup was a pain because there instructions suck. I had to play around with them to figure them out, but overall a good kit. If they were properly tagged it would be helpful also. The other pain was finding a belt the right size. I went to the Auto parts store 3 times. I should have bought various sizes but a $50 bucks apiece. Luckily it is 10 minutes from my house.

What kinda hose are you using from the top of your water pump to the intake. I have the rubber hose and was going to put a braided cover over it with some billet specialities billet ends but I saw yours and like it. Do you have the part number on what you used???

The frame connectors are the weld in type from DSE. I like them but I dont like how far they go up into the floor pan. When you go to put carpet in the back part that will make it harder to fit. I should have cut them the same depth as the inside floor board but I didnt think they would be strong enough.

Nevermind, I found them on there website.

Thanks guys for all the compliments. The car has been a 4 year project and I am doing it for a buddy of mine. Just a little background on the car. Me and my buddy bought 69 camaros in 1981. We still have the cars. Mine is the prostreet car and this is his car. He has finally had the money to do the car after 28 years. Hope to get it running around June after I get back from vacation and the NHRA nostigilia races in Bowling Green.

Thanks David,

My wife was taking the pictures and I was seeing how close the fans were to pulleys. That is funny though. The guy that owns the car is the one drinking the water. He lives in Colorado and flies to my house every month for a few days to work on the car. We are getting all excited about the car.

Thanks Chris and Wayne for the compliments.

It has a painless wiring kit in the factory location. I also will have fuses under the dash for the electronics on the 502 ramjet motor. Somemore will be located on the driver side fenderwell for the fans, lights, horns. I will make a plate to mount the relays and fuses.
