: Cowl Induction/Engine Pics
MarkM Aug 25th, 01, 11:42 AM I recently made a cowl induction for my car and thought some may want to see, I did it basically like CarlC did. But I used a 16" aluminum baking pan, that I polished. I just got a digital camera so the pics need some work. I also recently added the performer rpm air gap. And today I added the I-man small body HEI.

Cameron Aug 26th, 01, 09:45 AM Looks great. Did you have to use an offset air cleaner base to get it to line up with the hole in the hood? Where did you get the baking pan?
speedy-Z Aug 26th, 01, 10:33 AM Nice job, it has a real clean look to it.
MarkM Aug 26th, 01, 11:41 AM Thanks for the compliments. I found the baking pan by doing a search online, I just typed in 16" aluminum baking pan and found a place that sold them. It was about $20. I don't remember what the name of the place was though. No I didn't use a offset base, it lined up without it. It is a pretty close in the left rear, and it will rub some, at least my last lid did, but it was a little bit bigger then the K&N lid.
RickD Aug 26th, 01, 01:40 PM I like that. Can you provide any more info such as tricks you learned, how to do the carb cutout, etc? Is it level to the hood?

MarkM Aug 26th, 01, 02:41 PM I just measured how deep the cowl hole in the hood was, then I could figure out how far the air filter went up into the opening. Even with a 4" filter, and that intake, I still have over an inch before the air cleaner hits the top of the cowl. The pan is a little bit taller in the back since the hood does slope down some. But the rubber seal has a 3/4" bulb, and it can slide up and down on the pan about 1/2", that gave me some room to work with. I didn't glue the seal to the pan, because I might ad a spacer under the carb so I'll have to cut the pan down some more. I know it's sealed well because I can go drive the car, and everything will be hot under the hood except the air cleaner which is cool. I plan on taking some better pictures soon, so I can take some close up shots. Or if anyone wants to see something closer, I can shoot that too.

CarlC Aug 26th, 01, 06:43 PM Mark,
It turned out really nice. That cakepan is a great idea. It's a lot easier then my method. I'll post the pic on my website.
How did you do the base? Any chance of getting a picture of that?

pete b Aug 26th, 01, 08:55 PM Mark,
That looks great! Cowl induction is the next project on my Nova, and now you've got me re-thinking how I was going to do it.
Did you change your wheels yet? I remember you were talking about getting a different set a while ago.

MarkM Aug 27th, 01, 08:53 AM Carl, I'll take some more pics soon that show more of it up close.
Pete, no I haven't got the 17's for it yet. Wheels are so expensive that I'm going to have to wait even longer for that. I did put some drag radials on the back, so those are alot of fun on the street.
CarlC Aug 27th, 01, 03:03 PM Mark,
The picture is posted. I tried to get your link to work but I can't figure out how to get geocities to create the squiggly line in your address. It won't copy from any other application. I'm sure it's operator error.
Let me know if you would like any changes.

MarkM Aug 27th, 01, 03:29 PM Carl, looks good. One small thing though, my car is actually a 68, not a 69. As for the link, did you try just opening my site and right clicking, copy and pasting it to your site? The squiggly thing is weird, I believe it's called a tilda, at least that's what someone told be so I'm not sure. When I get some more pics I'm going to host them somewhere and put a link to them on my site, I'll let you know when I do. Thanks, Mark
CarlC Aug 27th, 01, 09:22 PM OK, it's working now. Geocities does not allow the simple task of cut/copy and paste. You have to highlight the section desired, Ctrl-C to copy, paste in on a special geocities clipboard using Ctrl-V (mouse would not work), then paste it onto the website. Well, it is free webspace.
I looked at your car a dozen times today and still fat-finger'd it!

MarkM Sep 10th, 01, 03:54 AM Yellow. Actually the roadster is my dads. Saturday night my brother and I took it to a cruise about 30 miles away from home. About 9 o'clock the clouds started to role in. So we decided to leave, a couple minutes later it started to sprinkle, and then it started to pour. That was an event, it's pouring raining, my brother is driving about 80mph, rooster tails from the tires shooting up about 30ft. We're passing people on the hightway and I look over at them, and they'll looking at us like we're crazy. As long as we stayed moving we didn't get that wet, just our heads because the windshield is so low, but it was fun.
RickD Sep 10th, 01, 03:55 AM Very nice. I see from the picture that the housing appears beveled to match the hood slope. Is that true or is the seal pushed down in the front, taking up the difference. I'm interested in doing the same.
