View Full Version : engine mounts
tyrob Dec 11th, 08, 09:25 AM I have a 1976 camaro and just installed a 350 engine out of a 1986 van in it. My problem is the engine side motor mounts are different than the ones I need for the car. Does anyone know which years will fit and if the only reason the ones I have do not fit is becouse they were in a van? I bought the car with no engine so I do not have any parts other than the ones that came with the 350. The car had a 305 in it originally. This is the only thing keeping me from starting this car, so please help.I have seen several places that sell the frame side mounts for a 76 but cannot find the engine side anywhere. Thanks, Rob
SPARKY69 Dec 11th, 08, 09:28 AM The mount from the van wont work ..the 305 from the camaro will work if you have it?? Can be bought at auto stores though (70-81) should be the same..
tyrob Dec 11th, 08, 09:59 AM Thanks Bill, I had no idea they were still available at the parts store. I just called auto zone and they said they have them in stock. $7.99 each. Thanks again, Rob

tyrob Dec 13th, 08, 07:10 PM Kevin ,thanks for the help. I ended up finding a pair at the website the camaro place used for 40.00. They will only fit from 1973-1981. The dealer wanted $138.00 each for them.I almost fell out of my chair when I heard their price. Thanks again for the response. Rob
67conv.cam Dec 15th, 08, 01:57 PM great! i am glad that you solved your problem.. i am curious which mounts did you find?? were they the steel horseshoe type??
surge818 Dec 17th, 08, 03:06 AM I know what you went thru I have a 71 camaro and I did a swap from v6 to v8 for that year I coouldnt find the frame mounts so I ended up buying frame mounts for a 72 thinking they were going to match with the motor mounts and they didnt and then it took me a long time to find the motor mounts for the 72 to 81 I ended up getting them from the auto wreck for $10. At the auto store all they sell is the frame mounts.
tyrob Dec 18th, 08, 04:41 PM Kevin, They were the horseshoe cup looking brackets that bolt directly to the engine with 3 bolts. Then you run the 5-1/4'' bolt through them and the frame mounts. I found the frame mounts at alot of places but noone had the engine brackets. I do not see how GM can charge what they do for them. I guess its becouse they are so hard to find.
67conv.cam Dec 19th, 08, 03:50 PM robert , that is good news...
i know from experience how frustrating finding the right part at reasonable prices can be...
you really have to do the homework...lol
and i thought once i got out of school it would be easy....hahaha
NHBandit Dec 19th, 08, 08:15 PM The reason the auto parts stores don't have them is the same reason they don't sell the frame mounts for the first generation Camaros. They are solid steel so there's nothing to wear out (no demand for them). They sell the parts that wear out which is the part with the rubber mount.
