My grandfather told me starting July of 09 that ALL cars even antiques or collectors have to pass SMOG if they want to be on the road. WTF! is this true? Sometimes I think he just talks out his A.. no offense to him but he hates chevy's hes a ford man and hes always trying to scare me or something I swear. IS IT TRUE!!?!!?!?!? Cuz if it is there is no way in hell I am passing and I might as well sell it cuz fixing it will be more than its worth and the time to do it yeah uhm dynamite anyone?

I haven't heard this yet, but I do figure the Auuuuunald will try to pull ANYTHING to generate revenue and if pulling any old car smog exemptions will generate MONEY for him to WASTE, I can see him doing it!!

Oh, and btw, if you can pass a smog equipment visual and your car is tuned like stock, you shouldn't have any problems passing a smog test at all b/c they have to use the OEM smog spec's!! NOT modern ones!

ex. I have an 83 Z28.
It came with A.I.R. system and catalytic converters.
Since it is not over 25 years old, I do not have to pass a Sniff Emission test BUT I am SUPPOSED to retain(keep on) all the original emission equipment. Keep in mind, this is here in Texas and emissions laws change a little by location.
I hope this helps a little, I know how confusing it can sound.

Camaro Performers Jan 2008 has a 2 paragraph article titled "CA Bill to require annual emissions inspections for older cars fails...Again!" The bill would not have effected pre-'76 vehicles which are currently exempt but would have required annual instead of bi-annual inspection of cars over 15 years old but not exempt.

Wisconsin no longer tests cars over 10 years old.

Its nothing like original. 75 camaro with a gm crate engine, headers no cats x pype and mufflers that dump before the axle. WHICH i have to fix before the nineteenth of next month and get my fix it ticket signed off so I dont have that over my head. I dont understand why they would want to smog us for monies theyd have way more monies if they stopped making houses.

Those tree hugger hippies will do anything to crush all cars except the yaris (notice i did not capitalize it, its not that important).

I hope I'm not hijacking but, same goes for thier "going green" appliances, I don't mind saving some cash on my energy bill but, they make these things so cheap they last 2-3 years at best. most appliances I have stripped and crushed for scrap are those "green" ones built in the last couple of years.

Their "green" toyotas and hondas can't take abbuse either.

The "Bill" did not pass.At this time you have very little to worry about.However you should locate the OEM exhaust for that Camaro as it is a violation of federal law to remove the "Cat" and if things in California get any worse "Money wise if any of the morons in charge think it will make money to smog old cars,expect a Bill to slide right on through.

Alot of people make OEM exhausts for the second gens. There Garbage. I still have my stock exhaust manifolds and my y pipe JUST IN CASE! My grandmother which is out of town and I am seeing tomorrow said the bill freaking passed too. She clipped out the newspaper article for me. I dont know, if its true, IF IT IS TRUE! What the heck is summit and jegs going to do? most of there inventory will be worthless...jeez this is disgusting. I never get bothered by cops or anything I mind my own business and respect the crowd. If i dont step on there toes they wont put my pickles in a jar lol. Ill try and jack my aunts computer to update on this...disgusting still I say.

well at least you dont have to buy a new peterbuilt.ca, wants all trucks to meet 07 smog by the year of 2012.i have a 94 and it will be out lawed in 09 in the ports.it sucks because i live in oregon but drive about 90% of my miles in cal,i had to spend $10k on generator with hvac just to stay cool and warm because you cant idle a truck more then 5 minuts anymore.i would like thoes treehuggers and arnold to spend the night on top of donner summit tonight and not run their motors and heaters to stay warm.see how much they get a good night sleep.

Here in Texas I am waiting until 2011 for my beloved 86 stepside Silverado to reach the magic 25 year mark that Texas uses to call a vehicle antique. I will then rip out every bit of smog stuff I can find as it no longer will have to pass an emissions test. It already tests cleaner than any other vehicle I own. PS. it's not as beloved as my Camaro. lol.
