My machine cranks up, but my flat Gateway screen monitor won't stay on??
#1 Son hooked up an old CRT monitor to keep me going.
Is it the on/off push button bad??

I have a Gateway FPD 1830 monitor and it acted up too. Here is an excerpt from a computer forum that I found when researching my problem. I bought the part mentioned from LCD about a year ago and it repaired the monitor.
I had the same problem, I had my monitor for about 2.5 years and all
of the sudden the Gateway FPD1830 18" will take forever to heat up,
took longer each time. I would have to turn the power on and off
switch (it would display the screen for a split second then flicker
and goes back into a black screen). I called Gateway and they are the
worst support ever (no support at all)!!! The Gateway representative
goes and blames it on the cold weather and even my APC UPS saying
that may be the one taking longer to startup/heatup (Daaah, the APC
UPS stays "ON" all the time). I told her I have 2 of these monitors
and the other one has no problem powering on (displaying the screen)
during the cool winter months. After talking to Gateway Rep for 34
minutes, I got nothing. They tried to offer me a new cable, they
didn't even know the difference between a power cable and a video
cable.
The monitor is great -- when it works, but Gateway is just horrible in
tech support and customer service.
Anyway, I purchased the replacement part from LCDpart.com
(www.moniserv.com) (http://www.moniserv.com%29/), they have a new and improve compatible part
(backlight/ inverter) for $99.00 plus $9.99 shipping. Total $109.98,
instead of purchasing a brand new monitor for about $299 plus
shipping.

Installed the new part, took about 20 minutes using instructions from
LCDpart.com and the monitor is up and working again. I'm not sure how
long it will last. The part has a 90 day manfuacturer warranty and
store warranty of 90-days also. One of the LCDpart.com Rep said the
life of the part is usually good for a few years. So hopefully it
will last longer than 2.5 years. If it does, buying the replacement
(new compatible inverter) was a good deal! (saves from buying a new
one a $200.00 savings). Considering some new monitors only have
90days - 1 years parts & labor.
