: 69 Tire options
tselder Dec 13th, 08, 05:05 PM 69 Camaro Convertible. I have a set of stock 15x7 Rally wheels and want to put four of the same size tires on the car if they would look right. I believe the Z28 had E 70 15 which are 205 70 15 right? Is that the largest tire that the factory put on a 69? I put a 215 60 15 on the front and it looked good but is too small on the rear. The car is close to factory ride height. Thanks for anyones help.
tselder Dec 21st, 08, 04:51 AM I ended up deciding on 235-60-15 on all four wheels and they look good. I hope this helps someone else. I tried 225-60 front and 255-60 rear but just didn't like the look. I was trying to stay with four of the same without any modifications and they fit nice.
barryfrise Dec 21st, 08, 05:28 AM I had 15x7 Rally wheels with 225-70 BFG TA's on my 69, and they're pretty tall. It was stock height and the front right rubbed in turns a bit, but I found my subframe had been damaged at that corner previous to me owning the car. I'm going through the car now, replacing the front sub and putting Hotchkis springs on the rear, so overall the car will sit an inch or two lower. I was thinking I'd go with the size you've settled on. Can you post a pic?
South Side Goons & Hitmen Dec 23rd, 08, 12:24 PM Actually I have heard and read somewhere that very late model year 1969 Z28's could be had with 60 series tires such as the F60x15 tires which were available on the 1970 Z28's. As you probably know the 1969 model continued very late into the year since the 1970 had delays with the stamping for quarter panels if I recall correctly. The Z22 option rings a bell for some reason.
FWIW I have a 1969 Camaro. It has 4 leaf springs in the back. I run a P235/60/R15 all the way around with no rubbing issues on 15x7 Rally Wheels, a 350 mouse and P/S.
I tried to post a pic but both files failed to upload...  Probably because the pics were from the body shop where my Camaro has been at since June and my Camaro hates me, LOL! :p
tselder Dec 23rd, 08, 06:13 PM I am glad to see someone else running the 235/60/15 like mine. I will try to post some pics. Got mine on the road for the first time yesterday with no interior or top. I only had the two front seats in it. My son and I put 19 miles on it with the temperatures hovering around 30 degrees. People loved the hugger orange with white stripes but thought we were crazy cruisin in a convertible in the middle of winter. A few minor mechanical issues need to be resolved and then interior and top. Almost there. One day I will tell you all how long this project has taken.

I just changed from 70-series to 235/60/15 tires on 15x7 rally wheels on all 4 corners and personally love the look.
69-454 Jan 16th, 09, 12:19 PM I am buying 4 rally wheels for my 69. You guys have talked me into 235/60/15 all the way around with 15 x 7. Should I get a certain back space. If so what do you recommend ?

69-454 Jan 16th, 09, 12:41 PM OK I go 15x7 with 235 60 15 on the front. What back space ? What would work on the back without any rubbing issues ? Rim and tire size and back space ?

Just buy some FW code 15x7s. I don't know the backspace but it's the same as the YH wheels that came on 69Zs. And they are pretty common.

With 15x7 rally wheels, 235/60 tires were the largest I could put on all for corners of my 69 vert without any rubbing. Near stock height.
69-454 Jan 18th, 09, 05:26 PM Went with 15x7 with 235 60 15 all around and like the look, Fit perfect. Thanks
drbrick Jan 19th, 09, 02:38 PM I used 235 60-14 on my 69,but it is also lowered 2 inches w/hotchkiss front springs and air shocks in the back.It will rub a bit on the front when coming into the driveway with the tires turned.
Daytona Yellow 69 Z/28 Jan 19th, 09, 05:59 PM Here is a picture of my old daily driver Blue 69. I ran 225 60 15s on the front and 235 60 15's on the rear with 7" rallys with no rubbing. At one time I had 235's all the way around and the fronts would rub if I turned to tight.
