Did they ever build COPOs in Van Nuys? This guy is hinting around that his car is, but something doesn't seem right. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet-Camaro_W0QQitemZ330294302791QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_ Cars_Trucks?hash=item330294302791

If that deck stamp is legit .... it has a COPO suffix and a Van Nuys VIN

MN - COPO 9561 427/425, four-speed Transmission

That's a BIG IF!!
Build date 12/19--way too early for a non-Yenko COPO (assuming the "T's" are actually "I's" and substitutes for "1's") They do not look like mis-stamped I's to me. That alone is enough proof to me that it's a restamp; but in addition, I see no evidence of broach marks.

I think there has been one VN COPO found, so maybe there are more than one, and this could be one. But with the restamped motor, I'd be suspect of everything on this car. Lots of wrong things, that I could see in the pics...radiator and heads for starters. No mention of BE 4.10 rear, (pretty important piece, IMO) but reference made to a 4.11 rear.

Also, the "expert" made several errors in his appraisal. He may indeed be an expert, but not expert in COPO.

Still, it looks like a pretty nice car, just not worth the appraised value of $300K or the alleged insured value of $200K, IMO.

There were supposedly some Van Nuys copo cars sold out of Clippinger Chevy in West Covina Ca. There was a story about a burnished brown one burning in a fire at the dealer? Does anyone remember this??

I have Bob Wingates email address. He was the main HiPo salesman at Clippinger where one of my Zs came from. Unfortunatley Bob has never responded to any of my emails... One of the questions I wanted to ask him was if he ever sold any COPO Camaro's
