View Full Version : Blizzard, heavy snow warning... woohoo Jeep time
click Dec 14th, 08, 10:04 AM We are getting blasted today after an overnight snowfall of 4" that I plowed this morning. By the time I was done at the house and neighbors driveways, I went to the farm and plowed there. The snow got heavier and winds picking up to the point I couldnt see more than 20' ahead of me. I finished and drove home but couldnt find our street sign until I was 10' from it, 'whiteout' conditions. Churches and events closing all over the area as we are told to expect another 7" to 11" of new snow by 9pm tonight... I parked the Chev/jeep in the garage, put on the battery tender and letting the snow melt off the glass and body, then I will go out this evening again when wind chills are expected to be -30 degrees. Dont ya love snow :hurray:
This is the Chev/Jeep after I quit the 1st round of plowing, notice the little yellow blinkie light :D

This is current view out my office window, already 4" of new snow after I plowed 2 hours ago.

Only a kid with a new toy would think that's fun......last year it would've just been a pain in the butt...
All we've gotten so far is rain and they don't predict the snow will move this far south anymore. Maybe a dusting overnight on top of the ice when all this rain freezes...... Wife's already planning on working from home tomorrow....;)
Pro-Street69Camaro468 Dec 14th, 08, 12:09 PM I am ready for jet ski weather.....

click Dec 14th, 08, 02:53 PM 345pm just finished 2nd plowing and added an old couple from church about 1 mile away that are housebound, a church friend told me about them, the Mrs. uses a small snowblower, the Mr. is in wheelchair... to I went over and cleaned off their 150' driveway and turn around and up to their ramp at the front door. At least emergency folks can get there if they need too.. wife and daughter went shopping in my Tahoe, so I just played around with the blade. Im getting used to the swing of the blade, the angle where it hits or doesnt hit a high spot etc. Im getting better at raising the blade at the end of a run into a pile so the new snow goes up and over the old to keep room for the rest of the winters coatings.
Wipers are sure poor, always freezing up with the snow that blows around.
Hey what else can a guy do in winter around here right? Might as well plow with gas only $1.59 :D
So far we have almost 10" total from this storm. we need the moisture in the ground too.

We'll be at the in-laws for a few days over Christmas, so come on up and watch the house for us. The tree is up (fake so it doesn't dry out) and the whole house has lights in windows, on the front porch, snow in the yard, etc. My 12 yr old made a snowman today while it was still 39 degrees. It is now 7 and dropping to -6 overnight. When the frost is on the pumpkin.......:D

69mustang Dec 15th, 08, 05:36 AM Hey Jim we sent you our snow via the wind Sat and Sunday winds sustained at 35-40 with gusts to 55 temp here today -18 for a high. Be careful with that plow in the cold weather, steel gaets brittle in the negative degree days. Buddy up in Backus has lots of problems with breakage when the temp dips below zero. We have hardly any snow left as the wind took most of it and dumped it on you folks to the southeast of us. Good luck and Merry Christmas. Eric
67z28 Dec 15th, 08, 06:50 AM We'll be in the North Carolina mountains over Christmas week and hoping for snow for the kids to play in .

johnmh Dec 15th, 08, 09:07 AM I thought the '04 was a little slow turning over when we were going to the movies yesterday. I was thinking it was around zero. Then looked up at the thermometer & saw it was a little chillier! Looking for the block heater cord last night. (sigh) it's that time of year.
BTW jim- nice touch w/the bowtie on the plow!

Ahh yes, if it weren't for guys like this with all that enthusiasm with their new toys I'd never get more court plowed. Down here in Md we get enough for people to think they can justify buying that equipment but not enough to really use it so we always get some yahoo plowing our court since it's the last hunk of pavement the county hadn't touched. Go ahead, blow it up , just don't leave the tranny fluid in the court , it makes a mess in my driveway when my kids drive through it

rszmjt Dec 15th, 08, 09:15 PM It was -39 F here last nite, we got a huge dump of snow last weekend 22cm. Been shoveling for 2 days, and then this afternoon I went to the chiropracter for a tweak. LOL. Dontcha Love Winter?
Just checked it is -24 rite now, tomorrow a high of -19 WoHoo.
RamAirDave Dec 15th, 08, 10:25 PM First real (for around here) winter weather here today. 20* temps, freezing rain/sleet, some accumulation now. Kinda looks like snow, but it's not. Really not that bad, but people here freak out when it gets cold and there is precip falling from the sky, rushing to the grocery store and such. Driving half the speed limit on the interstates even if the roads are clear.
N Ark mostly gets snow, that's not so bad. C Ark gets ice. Ice sucks.
Jeff H Dec 16th, 08, 06:59 AM We had a sudden warm up yesterday in NJ and got up to 64 degrees, so I took a half day and played 18 holes of golf. They're calling for snow, sleet and ice today so it's back to winter! At least we don't have those crazy negative temps. :noway:

GMJoe Dec 17th, 08, 04:00 PM I sorta enjoy plowing snow myself, I use my kodiak 450 and usually end up plowing out most of my neighbors as well, what the hell it gets me outta the house and when I done plowing snow I drop the plow off and rip around doing doughnuts and blasting thru all the drifts.
zuma Dec 18th, 08, 03:53 PM Hey Jim, That looks like fun! I had to shovel about 60 feet of driveway this weekend before it turned into an icy mess... Coming down my driveway, I didnt want to end up in my neighbors yard...Thank goodness I only get 1 to 2 ft a year, If not, I would have to get me one of those...
