Guys,
Need a little help here from the experts! My daughter attends college in Winston-Salem, NC (Wake Forest) and I guess her car was parked in the school parking lot. Someone walked down the drivers side with a can of red spray paint....leaving a nice red streak of paint on her car. The car is a 2008 Kia Sportage, jade green in color. What can I use to remove the paint with ruining the base coat/clear coat? I figured to use lacquer thinner or miniral spirits, but concerned about the clear coat. This paint has been on the car since the week after Thanksgiving....so I guess it has had time to really setup.

Thanks for any help. :beers::beers:

I would start with rubbing compound by hand first. If that doesn't work, then rubbing compound with a machine. I wouldn't use any chemicals, and you shouldn't need them. Once it's off with the rubbing compound, step down to a lighter compound to remove the scratches from the rough compound.

Then follow up with your favorite wax or swirl remover. Good luck, Brian

Yep! Get a good, clearcoat safe rubbing compound (3M makes some nice ones, available at any auto paint supply house), then follow up with polish and wax. If she has comprehensive insurance coverage and a low deductible, she may just want to have it taken care of professionally.

Thanks guys! :beers::beers:
It really pi--es me off that somebody doesn't have anything better to do with their time!

Eric...$500. deductable. Do you think it would cost more than that to get it fixed?

Thanks again!

Thanks again!I would ask the question over at this site http://autobodystore.com/forum/index.php. If the KIA has a BC/CC paint job, laq. thinner will not hurt the clear coat. Having said that, I would take it to a good detailer and let them have at it. If it is spray can paint they can get it off if you don't want to try it yourself.

No, it shouldn't cost anywhere near that. I have $500 deductable on collision, but $50 on comprehensive, which covers vandalism. If it were me, I'd pay the $50 to let someone else make it look new again, but not $500.

sometimes the local coop has me clay bar cars that get carelessly blasted every few years

i don't know how it would work on a thick spray paint line

that really sucks, but if someone was rotten enough to do that, i usually rest easy knowing that person will usually end up in jail eventually any way

Guys....Just as a follow up!

Eric...thanks for reminding me about the comprehesive insurance...yes $50.
I have an appointment with the claims office today. Hopefully I can get her car looking good before she goes back to school in January.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions :beers::beers:
