i know this may sound crazy but it would be fun so any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok heres the deal i heard that on indy car style race cars that they use 6 cyl motors. is that true??? next my friend has a complete 2.5 4 cyl with 5 spd sitting in our shop. i thought it would be fun to build that motor for higher rpms and power and build a tube chassis (indy car style) and try and enter some racing circuits (just for fun) how would you build a 4 cyl motor to be able to do that since i dont see really any aftermarket stuff for them.

plus any design ideas for chasis setup or any tech information of pictures would be greatly appreciated. you can send them to me at kgunter@uiciinsctr.com i think this would be fun.

I believe that Indy cars are V-8s with Cu.in. regulation limit of around 230.

You can check with the tech and saftey people of the various racing organizations about how the car must be built, but I'm sure it will be with cubic dollars. How about a Formula 2000 or Formula Ford type car? You might be able to find something already started that you could get a bargain on.

Those little motorcycle powered Legend cars are kinda neet in my opinon.

Or consider a Lotus(Rotus??)-7 type car by Colin Chapman from England. They are only 1,000/1,200 pounds w/ upwards of 200hp.

If you are serious about wanting to get a taste of racing, ask around the race tracks what the cost would be to pick up a car that is a couple seasons old. That would put your rear in the seat for the least amount of money.

If it's being on the road that you are interested in, then the prior post gives a good sugestion. The company that currently sells Lotus 7's is Canterham and they have a web site. (they are sold under license from Lotus) One of the "stinks" (at least here in California) is the smog laws. They are working on getting the Ford Xtec motor certified for this installation.
