Just browsing thru the Dollar Stretcher and came across this ad- " '69 chevy 400 small block complete, runs but smokes, $500 obo." I'd say that's a very rare engine considering that GM did'nt start producing the 400 til '70.

offer 250.00, (you have to rebuild it), that would be a good deal...

Believe me, it crossed my mind, but I have a standard bore 400 waiting in the wings. When I first saw the ad I thought it's a '69 engine, so it's not a 400, or it is a 400 but he just got the year wrong. Maybe somebody just put the 400 in a '69 chevy and that's how he came up with the numbers. I do think $500 is a little much for a 400 that needs rebuilding, but they are gettin rare. This same character has a rebuilt 454 w/turbo tranny for sale for $850 obo I may call him on.

A 400 that went into a 70 model Chevy could have a 69 date code. Std bore no-crack 400 cores are fetching $400+ these days. Not many to had anymore.
