How much clearence should there be between the flywheel bolts and the block while they are torqued to spec to the flywheel flange? I am using new stock flywheel bolts with the correct lock washers. The bolts are only about a 40 thousanths of an inch from the back of the block casting.
Thank for the help.

I dont have the measurements, someone here will probably give you that, but the difference might be flexplate vs flywheel. Flywheel bolts are longer.

Right, they are shorter for a flexplate and longer for a flywheel.

69,
If it is an automatic flywheel, and you have the correct bolts, they really should not come out of the crankshaft flange much at all. The threads on the correct bolts are probably less than 1/2" long. Sounds like you may have bolts for a manual transmission flywheel.

69, they really should not come out of the crankshaft flange much at all. Either set-up, flexplate or flywheel, bolt should have less than two threads showing on the block side of the crankshaft flange.

For those longer bolts sticking out of the threaded hole, remember the crank will walk a few thousands, if you thrust bearing surfaces are good.

Thanks for all of the help. Just to clarify it's a manual trans flywheel, not an automatic trans flexplate.
