Second gen. F body (78TA) What is the glue between the quarter panel and the brace behind it? There is a brace behind the quarter between the side window and the rear window once you remove the quarter you can see this. It appears they glued it of some sort to the quarter panel here. The brace I assume is ther to stiffen the quarter up so it doesn't dent in. I am afraid if I leave it a vibration noise could occur. What should I use here? I doubt PL400 is a good idea :)

Lindsay,
Good question! First gens have the same brace and as I will be doing the quarters on my car soon.....it would be nice to know the answer.
Anyone have any suggestions?

I would NOT use any Chemical Solution unless the metal was prepped with Epoxy

Ron.....Huh
I remember seperating these braces from the quarters off of the 68 and the braces had some kind of glue (kinda like Liquid Nails) on the top of the brace and it adheared to the inside of the quarter. I remember it was really hard to get off the brace (ended up using a sawzall to seperate and a wire wheel on a 7" grinder to clean). I'm sure 3M makes something like this, just don't know what it is?

I'm not sure what the factory used for those braces, but I used 3M Panel Adhesive for those braces when I put the new Qtrs. on my 67. Mine were also spot welded near the trunk opening.
