Hello all,

It's good to be back after a week's absence from the forum. I was doing searches of the archives on cams for 327's and it eventually lead me to the Crower cams website diging for more info.

One cam caught my interest for a mild street 327. The cam is the 267hdp, 210/216@.050 .445/.445 112LSA.

This cam doesn't get much attention on this forum. It is almost identical to the Crane 266 (210/216@.050 .440/.454 114LSA) except a small difference in lift and the LSA.

I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to give the above Crower cam a whirl through DD2k.

The rest of my proposed combo:

.030 over 327 (331cu. in)
Vortec heads
9.5:1 compression
E-brock performer intake
E-brock 600cfm carb.
Dynomax 1&5/8 headers

On paper it sounds like it should be almost identical to the Crane 266 except with a possible slight exhaust lope.

Thanks in advance,

Mark P. - AKA "Granny"

Looks like a nice cam for a mild street combo. Max HP is 321 at 5000 RPM, max TQ is 376 at 3500 RPM. power curve is fairly flat through 5000 RPM.

Here's anpother cam you might find interesting. Comp XE256. Specs are 212I/218E duration, 447I/454E lift on a 110 LSA. Here's the numbers: 340 HP @ 5500, 374 FT/LB at 4000. Power curve is similar to the Crower but peaks a little higher in the midrange.

For grins I ran a little bigger cam for comparison - the Comp XE268. Max HP jumped to 347 @ 5500 and TQ goes to 373 @ 4000 RPM. It looks like power didn't increase that much but the power band extended up through nearly 6000 RPM.

IMO if you have freeway gears and are mostly interested in cruising I think you'll like either the Crower you listed or the Comp XE256.

Thanks Eric68,

It looks like the Crower 267dhp is a good choice for a street cam. The Comp. XE256 has been my #1 candidate for a long time. However, I was curious about a few other cams that are similar like the Crane266 & the Crower267.

My only concern with the Comp. XE series cams is that they have some pretty aggressive lobe profiles(from what I've heard). And thus, may have a shorter life span than some of the other similar cams.

Looks like any of these cams should work well in a mild street 327 or 350.

Thanks again,
Mark P.

I doubt the lobe profile for something as small as the XE256 would be anything that would accelerate valvetrain wear. I'd be more concerned if you were talking about a cam with lift in the .500" plus range.

You could go to the Comp or Crower web site and look at their on-line catalog; find the duration at .200 lift numbers. Most cam makers post these numbers in addition to the advertised and .050 duration numbers.

You can compare these numbers vs. the duration at .050 numbers and the advertised duration numbers to get an idea how agressive the lobe design is. I bet you'll find that the XE series is not much more (if any) more agressive than the Crower or Crane numbers (maybe a little) with a cam in that size range.

I think the hdp267 will work great for you...and you can step up to 1.6 roller rockers without running into retainer to guide clearance. After putting nearly 3 years on my xe268 (in my truck) I decided to go with something other than the xe series simply because of the valvetrain noise. I don't know if the smaller xe's are as bad but my xe268 has become quite noisy in the last year or so...although it does run very well. I am seriously considering the 267 crower for my truck, along with the 1.6 guided roller rockers that I have, just for more off idle torque and a quieter valvetrain.
