Does any TC member know what would be the correct shifter ball for a 1970 Camaro SS WITHOUT Consol? Would it be like a 69 black with the chrome lower portion? Or white? Being as no consol it should have the 4 speed pattern on the knob?
Thanks in Advance.

It's been along time since I had the original shifter knob in my 70Z with Console, but if I recall it was White with Black "H" Pattern. I put a HURST "T" handle on it years ago and don't know where the original is now. Some one might correct me here. I bet the Guy's over at NASTZ28 would have the answer ;o)

The correct shifter knob for the 70 z28 with console delete would be the hard round black top, chrome bottom with a white shift pattern. I beleive the same knob was used on the 69. In 1971 they changed to a different knob. The 70s with consoles had a different knob.

Thanks Ron and Robert for the replys. Yes that is what I thought also, I looked in the GM parts book and they show the same knob for 69/70 without consol, so that is what I am going to order.
Many Thanks Again and Merry Christmas.

To me this thread is in-coincidental, as who cares what shifter knob a driver prefers. I had a shifter handle made by one of Canada's most artistic Blackfoot Native Sculptures. It was White/Rose Alabaster Hookah that replaced the Mopar Plastic Bayonet Pistol Grip in my 72 RS 340 MAG Challenger. I sold the original Plastic Pistol Grip some 2 years ago for $450 on E-Bay; unreal in my opinion. To this day I do not know what happened to the Alabaster Shifter that my friend carved. His work and art was presented to the Queen in 1985 and his stone work is indescribably original. He is my friend and I will never will divulge his art, unless you are sincere and I pray he is alive and well.

I respect any Muscle Car Enthusiast, from a Factory Aluminum Clipped 62 409 to a the ZL1, a Cornet Hemi or a 65 Mustang 289 Fast Back, I choose the 70 1/2 Z and that's my preference. Yes, it is not original, but that's the way GM advertised the 70 as a product you could personalize and why the 70 1/2 Z is revered:

Other then argument sake, I can testify that the "CDN" 70Z with Console had a White Ball with a Black "H" Pattern Stencil which was identical to the 69 Chevelle Shifter Ball mounted on a Hurst Lever but what's it worth to you and I no longer have - lol; I prefer the Hurst "T" Handle on my M22 and the counsel was a jeep piece of junk where a Fire Extinguisher would best reside. If anyone wants the original Console mounting brackets in NOS condition I still have them ;o)
