John,

Very few came with cowl hoods from GM. It was an option-ZL2. The majority of Z/28s were flat hood cars, including mine. :) I think that the flat hood looks pretty cool, and may go back with one instead of the cowl induction version. I'll paint a cowl hood to match in case I ever change my mind.

I just get sick of a cowl hood on every first gen sometimes.

The ZL-2 Special Ducted Hood first appeared on the 12-68 dealer ordering info. No Camaro earlier than ZL-1 #1 is known to have been built with one.

Bob had it right. FEW Z28's were built with cowl hoods. I was playing with Camaros when the first gens were new, and never saw one on a Z28 until 1976 when I came across the '69 Z28/RS that I still own.. that was the first one for me... first time I'd seen a 302 emblem on a hood.... so I'd say they were VERY rare from the factory.

My Dad had an original cowl hood car. It was also an RS/Z28 in hugger orange. He bought it from the original owner in 1971. Still remember waxing the car for my Dad as a kid,and having to go around the 302 emblems. :) Wish I had it now.

Was the ZL2 option available on only the Z/28 or was available also on the RS or SS models?

RPO ZL2 was available on Z/28, SS350 and SS396 models.

Bob I couldn't agree more. I bought a 68Z that someone decided to add a cowl hood to. First thing I did when I got the car home was order a new flat hood for it. Much better.

I'll throw this out since it is along the lines of the ZL2 hood option, in 67-8 you could order the plenum air cleaner set up for both the cross ram set up and the single Holley. I've never seen either installed on a 69. Could you order the plenum air cleaner for a flat hooded Z in 69? If so wonder why we never see them?

After the Z10s, Z11s, and COPO cars got their ZL2s, there weren't many left for the SS and Zs.

Cowl plenum was 67-8, no ZL2 in those years. 69 is the opposite, as ZL2 was available (though rare) but not the cowl-plenum.

SOOOO if any of u guys are coming to NZ for a holiday...if u could fold it up and hide in your cabun luggage it would be greatly appreeciated.

John,

I just get sick of a cowl hood on every first gen sometimes.

Well said. I have finally convinced my wife to put the SS hood on her SS instead of the over played cowl hood.

Dave doesn't it seem strange that while the ZL2 hood wasn't offered until Jan 1 1969 (except the first two ZL1 cars that got rush delivered on New Years Eve) yet the plenum air cleaner wasn't continued until the introduction of the ZL2 hood? Guess that's whats eating at me, just curious why.
