I have a '67 RS/SS clone that I recently purchased. The headlight doors are tied in an open position and do not have motors. Until I go with the after market motor setup... is there a way to keep the doors in the closed position. I just like the looks better when they are closed. The doors swing freely, which is probably why the previous owner tied them open.
I actually wouldnt mind operating the doors manually. I doubt I will be out in the car when its dark. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I don't think the doors should swing so freely. On my '68, there are 'wavey' washers that are comperssed and restrict movement. My doors aren't hooked up and can easily be left open or closed, and they don't move. I think you're missing a few simple parts on your door assemblies.

The motors have arms mounted to them that open and close the covers. It seems that both are missing, letting the covers swing freely. In and out and front to back. Zip ties, or wire is what I can think of.

Thanks for the suggestions. I may try some sort of washer. I want to be able to open the doors if I need the headlights.

kyle, why not just install some motors now and get the doors working? and when you say aftermarket motors, what do you mean, like DSE or retro-electric? the factory setup works just fine, IMO. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And working headlight doors are a BIG cool factor on these cars. Let's be serious here, you can't pull into cruise night and have to get out, walk around front, and shut the doors by hand. LOL. I kid, but drove around without operating headlight doors for a while myself, but was really glad when I finally got them working.
but if motors aren't in the cards right now, i'd put a bolt through the swingarm where the motor shaft would normally be and use some zip ties, as was mentioned.

Aaron67, thanks for the feedback. There are no motors in the car and no relays either. So I will probably go with the retro-electric motors soon. I was really just curious to know if the doors were normally supposed to swing freely like mine do.
