View Full Version : 68 Camaro washer pump
68CMRO Dec 27th, 08, 01:48 PM I'm working on a '68 Camaro washer pump that is down and I think I've figured out why it's not pumping water and it's due to the part below. Other than spending $$$ on a replacement pump, can anyone tell me where I might find this doohicky? This one is broken I believe, and while I epoxied it back together, I suspect it won't last long. I'm not really interested in buying an aftermarket external pump at the LAPS, unless you can show me some reeeeeally cool hidden type that won't detract from the originality.

BelAirBob Dec 27th, 08, 04:10 PM I do not think that these pieces are offered as a kit. I believe that a new complete pump is the only way. The end pieces (nozzles) are available in kit form. Is your outer washer pump body white or black?
68CMRO Dec 27th, 08, 05:31 PM It's black.
BelAirBob Dec 27th, 08, 05:57 PM The correct washer pump should be white. If you are wanting to keep it as original as possible, don't think I'd bother to save it, as the black pump did not come with it in 68'. The first gens came with white bodied pumps.
68CMRO Dec 27th, 08, 07:06 PM Hmmmmm, it's entirely possible that I replaced it early on 20 years ago, but I don't really remember doing that. Do you have a picture of the correct pump then?
Omaniac Dec 28th, 08, 02:37 AM My 67 washer pump which I strongly believe is original, is black, but the part where the hoses connect to the pump is white. The replacement pump I bought from Firewheel was completely black (and looks different than the original), but some suppliers stress that they have the correct, white part, on their replacement pumps.
Applicable for 67 models, not sure if the same applies for the 68.

68CMRO Dec 30th, 08, 07:34 AM Thanks Jerome, I did a google search and came up empty-handed.
So I'm getting the consensus that white is correct for 68. I'm baffled as to why they used black & white even though they're the exact same product. Why not just use one color???

Great question. Probably just what the pump maker was making at the time.
Here is a pic of the correct style pump for your car. Your 68 has a slightly different outer black cover, but the basic pump is the same.
