What kind of money are we talking about to install an Ls1 engine and trans from a 2004 Corvette into a 1969 Camaro Convertible? The car has all new suspension from the Corvette installed over the summer, but we do need to find a rearend that will handle this power any sugestions for it? I am ahead of the game since i was given the car that was scrapped from a friend that owns a body shop to bad the rearend was damaged!

THIS LINK (http://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1210) may help a little bit.

Done this once. The LS1 motor is simply amazing bone stock. Then after you start adding mods, it gets crazy! My 2 cents.....go for it, no matter what the cost, it will be worth every penny.

This isnt a cheap conversion as the LSX motors are not SBC anymore but its the way to go -check with BRP Hotrods they have a mount and oil pan kit to make install easier- as far as the rear end goes im building a 8.5" corporate rear end its the replacement for the high dollar 12 bolts. I have built one for my 69 T/A clone posi, 3.42 gears and the LS1 cars rear disc brakes.I'll be running a modified LS6 that should do about 425hp to the rear wheels and I am not worried about it holding up. the 72-74 nova's and 75-78 nova's with 8 cyl have 8.5 rears and also the 76 cadillac seville housing/axles are the same 76 was only year with drum brakes the later with disc have a larger bolt pattern so avoid the 77 and later sevilles. spend money if what you have wont live. The corvette IRS would be cool addition but also expensive to swap-someone offers a kit to install the 84-96 vette IRS but I'm not sure of 97 and later since the trans is attached to the diff. Hope this helps you

A 12 bolt or 9" will handle a heads/cam ls1 with no problem. If your going to hit it with the juice, and mod the engine pretty good, I would consider a dana 60. As previously stated, these engines are amazing bone stock. My 99 Camaro SS is very fast with just an upgraded intake, headers and dual exhaust. If you put a good set of heads on it before it goes in, and a fairly large cam, you'll be in the 430-470 rwhp range, depending on how mild/wild you go. As much as I have in my 406, I could have put a heads/cam LS3 in my car. I wish I did, lol.

I'll do the best I can.....(and it's "Kokamo" not "kokoman":D:thumbsup:)

Started with a 2000 Z/28 Camaro.....totaled from hitting a horse.

~LS1/T56 (90K miles) = $2500 (good deal & came with totaled car)
~Custom modded oil pan/pickup tube to clear drag link = $150 @ local machine shop
~Hooker Super Comp Headers (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=HOK-2288-1HKR&N=700+400390+4294925082+115&autoview=sku) from Summit = $650ish
~Hooker motor mount plates (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=HOK-12611HKR&N=700+4294908216+400390+4294925082+4294839969+115&autoview=sku) from Summit = $75
~ATS master cyl bracket (http://store.nexternal.com/shared/StoreFront/default.asp?CS=ats&StoreType=BtoC&Count1=476329982&Count2=393470406) from ATS = $85
~X-Member.... I custom made my own, but they are available from ATS X-member (http://store.nexternal.com/shared/StoreFront/default.asp?CS=ats&StoreType=BtoC&Count1=476329982&Count2=393470406) = $360
~Fuel pump....I used the factory fuel pump from the 2000 Camaro inside of a 20 gallon fuel cell. I simply made up some custom lines from the tank thru a fuel filter and on to the motor. If you want to go all out on this, there are several different fuel pump in-tank systems out there that range from 800 bucks to 1600 bucks. Mine cost around 50 bucks....found some 3/8" steel braided line at a swap meet, used the factory 00' Camaro fuel line fittings and had them hydraulically crimped onto the steel braided line. It's things like this that save you money. It might not be the best way to do it, but if it will save 1000 bones that I could put somewhere else...so be it.
~Driveshaft modification = $100 at your local driveshaft shop (shorten)
~Custom tune = $150 to $250 (to tune out emissions and recalibrate speedo)
~And a bunch of other odds and ends....ex; custom radiator hoses, custom power steering hoses, custom battery cables, custom intake setup, wireing supplies, ect. A good guess at all of these small parts.....oooohhhh, prolly between 200 and 300 bucks.

Also notice in the pics below.....I used alot of parts from the donor car. I used the motor/trans, brake booster and master cyl, clutch master cyl, and steering column. All of these parts can be found how to be modified here on TC.

As for labor....there hasn't been one person help me on this project.....I did it all myself (except for the people who helped me take it apart). The wiring was the hardest part of this entire ordeal. It's not hard to do, but it took a long time.....about a weeks worth of afternoons (after work). If I were to pay someone to do this.....it would have never happened. Who knows what kind of money it would cost labor wise. I prolly have well over 200 hours in it.....but that was only because I wanted to do it right. If I were to do it again, it would take a 1/3rd of that now that I know how to do it all.

For a rough guesstimate....prolly around 3500 respectively doing it the way I did it....plus or minus 4 to 500. If you go all out with all the parts already made up that you can buy, your prolly looking at 5 to 6K....maybe even 7K not including labor. Honestly, I don't see where people are getting the 20K price rage from these swaps.:confused::confused:

As for my project, I took it all apart and re-did everything with better design and better/upgraded parts. Got some rust out of the body, changed the rear axle and gears, installed subframe connectors/front and rear sway bars/8 point roll bar/front and rear disk brakes, and will be going with a complete different paint job....car should go into paint in about a week. :D

Hope this helps for some of you folks. Lemmie know and I'll do what I can to help out.

Joe:thumbsup:

Kokamo, I have $24k in mine, but it's mostly stuff that I did at the same time, not stuff specific to the swap. Here's a rough breakdown on what I spent:
