To remove the rear leaf spring eye bracket on my 67, I had to cut off one of the three bolts because it was under the subframe connectors (less than 3/4" clearance).

I replaced the bushing and put it back together using 2 of the three bolts holding the bracket up. For street driving can I get away with this, or do you have suggestions? (I would prefer not to weld the bracket in place just in case I need to do rear end work or replace leaf springs, bushings, etc.)

Thanks!

Think of it this way....Those three 3/8" bolts that hold the front spring perch are just that, three 3/8" bolts. Now remove one and you have only two holding the front spring perch, which are also feeling strain from the subframe connector. I would not run the risk of what could happen by only having two of the three spring perch bolts in place. But, others sem to have better luck that I.

I would tack it real good with the mig, you can allways take a zip disc and cut the weld at a later date if required.
Better safe than sorry.

Jason, this really is the wrong web site to find anyone who'll go along with under-engineering your car. We're much more likely to tell you to replace all the bolts with grade 8.

Jason,

The three bolts that hold the front spring bracket in are threaded into J-Clips. They always have a tendency to break when removing them. They are easy to replace so don't even consider running with two bolts or welding the bracket into place. After you remove the bracket you can get access to all three. I would replace them all while you're at it.

Here's a link to clips I'm talking about.

alot of nhra stockers drill another hole for a 4th bolt in the top of the perch and thru the floor for added support,a big washer on the top side of the floor pan helps spread the load.i have a BB 4-speed car with et streets,cal-trac bars etc.never a problem with many high rpm clutch dumps..denny

Reinstall the J-clip then install a shorter bolt. The route I took. You can place your finger through the slot to hold down the nut to thread the bolt into place.

Or, I also did the same as mentioned earlier and drilled a 1 inch hole from the floorboard and used a therou-bolt with washers and nut from inside the floor. I put the washers and nut onto a long screwdriver then lowered the screwdriver to the bolt, then twisted the bolt to start threads. Use a deep socket and extension to tighten.
