need help once again. I am trying to assemble my console and I have the assembly guide however the shift plate slider has a hole 2"X2" approx which slides with the shifter forward and backward and the hole is large enough so it does not need to move left right. however I have nothing to prevent items from following into the void. I have the boot and the round disc, instructions say the disc goes right on top of the boot but that still inches below the slider. anyone know the answer or maybe some pictures.
thanks

What year is your car, and can you post a picture of what and where you are concerned about? On a side note, your not supposed to have crap hanging around the shifter or on top of the counsole anyway... but you probably knew that already and it has nothing to do with your question :noway: (just a smart a$$ comment on my part)...

Sounds like you have the wrong shift boot. The 69 had a round shift boot hole, the 68 had a rectangular shift boot hole. The console boot is different from the non-console boot.

Based on what I've read (between the lines) I guess it's a 67 with an auto.

the car is a 68 manual trans with muncie. the shift handle is rectangular. I have the correct boot. the assembly instructions show that the round disc sits ontop of the boot below the shift plate. the issue is that the shift plate has a 2X2 hole and the shifter is much much smaller than that.

You have the right stuff, and that's how it fits.
You can push the round disk up as far as it will go, but it won't stay put there.
Been there, done that.
With my TKO, I use a Hurst superboot, screwed to the floor around the shifter. It goes right up to the bottom of the slider and seals well enough that nothing falls thru.
Notice that was a one year setup, and 69 went to just a tube that dropped from the console to the floor, big enough so the shifter and boot would fit inside it.
I looked into using that on my 68, but you have to changed the whole thing, and the 69 woodgrain is a different color than 68.
I did later find that, at least with repro parts, there is nice smooth polished chrome under that woodgrain, that's how I run it now.

I looked in a parts catalog. for 68, there's a slider plate and retainer. the retainer is the one with the 2x2 hole in it. there's also an upper seal, which in the catalog, appears to be about 2x2. it has a small rectangular hole in it for the shifter handle to pass through. are you missing this piece? Rick's Camaro uses pn CP 121 and calls it a 4-speed upper seal, with console. Hope this helps.

arocars the upper seal is the round disc part that simply falls down as indicated by Jim. I did notice in the back of the national parts depot catalog they have an exploded view of the console and they show an additonal slider that appears to go left to right not sure if this is for a 67 or 68 or how it would mount. any ideas
anyone try to attache something to the shifter to hold the upperseal in place
