I'm just curious to see the sentiment here and everyones 'optimal' view of their 1st gen Camaro is or would be.

Sorry I may have been a little vague, it could be any model, Straight 6, RS,SS, z/28, with any option/color combo, etc. I guess I mean how would you use the car.

ditto here. on my island 5-10k miles a year IS a daily driver. I have an 01 navigator just turned 48k miles. :)

I would not be building my car if I was going to look at it. My first 69 Camaro I probably put over 100k miles on it over 9 years. I would rather drive a "7" car cosmetically, than a have a "10" that sits in the shop and gets driven once a year.

Nice clean mostly weekend driver that is driven anywhere but not in mall parking lots :) Owning a "One of 100" car is nice but not a reality for most.

i agree, i am sure everyone here would love to drive the heck out of their cars, but with the amount of money invested in some of them, it is hard to bring yourself to do such things, not to mention it wouldn't be very smart IMO.

I restored my 69 convertible and hardly get to drive it because of the effort in the restoration etc. I got sick of having a car not to drive so... I built a coupe to drive every day and I drive it to work etc all summer, however I do draw the line I do not go out on rainy day but getting caught in the rain is not a problem. and I do store it once they put salt on the roads, basically thanksgiving to Easter.

My vote is for B. Like to drive mine as much as possible in the summer. If I happen to get caught in the rain, oh well. It'll wash. Just gives me another exuse to spend more time with her. She should have an attitude also.

I try not to get my car wet these cars were not best designed for getting wet and having leaves and debris all over them as it gets in the window trim and down in the cal and is a rust promoter...JMO...When I do wash my car I use a blow gun and get all water out of the hard to get places....

For the amount of time and money put into it, I'm driving it. I'll let the next owner, whether family member or a buyer, worry about the condition when he/she gets it.

I feel the same about my present Go-to-Work car, 2004 BMW M3 Convert. Money I paid, I'm driving it!

Cars are meant to be driven. Where's the fun in a perfect car that you dont drive? Bragging rights? No thanks. I have a 20/20 car that I drive in decent weather. Living in the rust belt, that equals less than 5k a year. Yeah, occasionally it gets caught in the rain, but it was made for rain. Yeah, someone might hit me some day and that would suck, but again, it is a 'car' and was meant to be driven and enjoyed.

Put me in the 5k-10k category. I don't think I care to own a car that is only driven 250 miles or less.

When I 1st brought it 30yrs ago, was a damn good runner, used daily..
Then did the re build thing a few yrs later as a weekend driver..
Then as the yrs rolled over, getting close to the next body rebuild, used more and more, till used daily...yeah a few door chips from parking in the mall/shopping and stuff
I missed just jumping in a driving .
After the next body rebuild, thought stuff it...Im going to use her like she was meant to be..
Take the kids to school, hual the firewood home from the farm...and drive thru the paddocks...take the kids to jnr soccer even on wet muddy days...muddy boots.. nothing a vac cleaner cant fix when dry.
Tow the trailer , go camping out in the middle of nowhere narrow gravel roads...
And it only takes a Sunday afternoon to clean down, inside outside engine, to head off to a Rod show and enter in the 'Show and Shine'...often towing the Bradford Van on the transport trailer to show that as well...

My 67 was a dialy driver until I took it apart 3 years ago to do few things to her. It might be another year before she drives again but when that day comes she's going out on the road in blaze of glory. I will consider paint chips from driving her as badges of honor. I will not be able to prevent them all but will do what I can to keep it from happening. She will have working windshield wipers to clear away the rain, A/C for the hot summer days and a heater for those winter cruises to work or where ever even if it's little nasty out.
She was driven in rain, snow, ice and of course the best days for cruisin before I took her apart and she will be again. I live in a small town and it's funny to have people tell how much they see my 67 around town and they ask me if I own any other cars. I tell them yes I do but they are not as fun and enjoyable to drive as the Camaro. Some are sickened that it just got driven and maintained and never restored. Well shes getting a make over now and will be enjoyed even more some time soon!! I really miss not driving my 67 and was the best way to leave work......get in start her up hit the gas and the work day is forgotten and the drive into work has me arriving with a big smile on my face. I can harldy wait for those times again!!

Weekend crusier for me. I don't see much fun in a trailer queen. I would take a daily driver all day long too though. I am hoping to find a first gen. firebird to build for my sons first car. Whether its a POS or a show car all the first gen. F-bodies grab my attention! just my $.02 Jeff

I try to keep my mileage to 500 a year but i am not afraid to drive it. I have been caught in rain and even snow once. I also have not used my trailer to haul it to shows , but at times its a pain to clean the bugs etc., off it after 100 miles of highway running.

Ive just built my 327 to a pretty hott street motor. Some people say its not safe to drive a car like that on the street everyday. Is that true because i love driving it. Ive heard several people say its not safe to drive a motor with a cam that 290/297 duration everyday and im just wondering if it.

I don't drive mine 5-10k a year, but I do drive it a couple times a week. The Z has 63,000 on it, in 1991 it had 40,000. So 23,000 in 17 years may not be alot to some, but last year on all 3 of my vehicles I only put on 7,500 miles. My wife doesn't let me out much.:D

I voted B as well. My 68 was the first car I ever bought. I've had it for 34 years, but haven't driven it for the last 15. I can't wait to get it back on the road again! It definitely will be a weekend warrior.

mine's a co-daily driver
maybe if it's raining hard, I'll take the Impala, but the Camaro's been in the rain plenty of times as well
I can't imagine not driving it, I've put ~500 miles on the Camaro in the past week and a half

Cool, looks like the 'weekend toy' is the main pick. I'm somewhat surprised there aren't many 'garage queens' chiming in. It's all good though!

I finally got mine on the road and don't want to keep it stored. I do baby it but it is a driver.(no rain 'cause top down 90% of the time) I agree with Everett, let who ever gets it next worry about its condition. Of course it'll be my sons that get it but at least it won't be a rust bucket.

For me,i dont see much enjoyment in having a car you can only look at,unless you have it in a museum or something.I really enjoy driving around on nice weekends, and people giving you the thumbs up or talking to you at stop lights.Drive em' and enjoy em',thats why they were made in the first place.:beers:
