I have an 81 cam with a newer 350 but some older parts. Ran good this whole summer and has some kick compared to the 267 economy motor that was in it. haha. anyway the car chugged and died on me and it wouldnt start. so i pushed it in the driveway and later that night it started right up. after a minute or 2 it just chugged and then died again. would it be a fuel problem or spark? thanks jeremy

as a thought.. try running it til it dies, then check to see if you hear a whoosh sound when you pop the gas cap off. If so, replace the gas cap it's bad and causing a vacuum in the fuel system and preventing fuel from reaching the carb.

Sounds fuel related. Change the inline and in-carb fuel filters and see if that cures the problem.

Sounds like a fuel problem, fuel filter ,fuel pump??

Might be coil breaking down when it gets hot or the module breaking down when it gets hot. Parts house like Advance or AutoZone can check your module for you. Might want to ohm out coil to check it.

Thank you for responding but gas is getting to the car. i found out that as the car idles its fine. then when i put the car in gear it starts to chug out and die. like it would only do it under load. then once it dies it doesnt want to start. thats why i think spark would be an issue. the only thing is ive RECENTLY replaced the distributor with an accel 120.00 one. so the parts are new. maybe somethings gone bad like a coil or module?
