OK I'll try this one. The T5 was used in everything from a chevett to an amc eagle and from a jeep to a mustang and from a volvo wagon to a Zcar... Many know that a frankenstein t5 can be made from all kinds of parts. So if I want to use a s10 t5 --front shifter, or a 2000 v6 camaro rear shifter t5---- in my 67--both shifter positions are wrong so what tailhouse off of what critter will work, and then the rear main shaft has to be changed out to match the house cause of the speedo drive, how hard is it th change out the rear mainshaft? a job for a professional?

If you have a WC t5 you will have to use a WC main shaft. You can't put a NWC shaft in a WC transmission. If you have an S10 NWC transmission you can put in a NWC Mustang shaft, but not a WC Mustang shaft. The bearing preload will need to be set when you change the parts out. You might also need a press to change some of the gears on the shaft.

As for the shifter position, I don't know. I think I have a Mustang tail housing, but I would have to dig it out. I have S10 and 3rd gen Camaro housings and they have the shifter in the front. The Camaro housing has the bosses for the torque arm to bolt to. Here is a '92 Mustang T-5 http://www.allfordmustangs.com/pp-classifieds/showfull.php?product=5391&bigimage=100_1230.jpg

just to change out the mainshaft involves taking transmission totally apart to do it and all gears changed over. but some stuff from ford to gm they are different and also splines. i wouldnt think you would even get a tranny together. cause gm is non world class and ford is world class. with out both trannies in front of me i couldnt tell you if you barking up wrong tree or not. i got a mustang t-5 at work but no gm one to tell you. mainshaft is to chevy or to ford so need to change yolk on driveshaft and than to get a u-joint for it because splines are different. good luck on it

Hi, all t5's from 92 up are world class, even ones from an s10, er astrovan, or a camaro.

I have several GM WC t-5 transmissions. As far as I know the shaft is the same where the gears are installed. The length and number of splines is about the only difference.

OK another forum that I belong to had the answer----And I already have the right tranz! The astrovan t5 has the shifter position midway-- the closest to right position for the early camaro. the astro has a funky offset--to the side shifter with a mecanical Z mechanism. All I need to do is use a late camaro performance shifter and make what ever appropriate offset bracket bolt on the stub to put the shifter sprowting out in the origonal spot!
