Hi. I got a 350 with that fires awesome when its cold. it idles for as long as u need it to. i put the car in gear (auto trans) and as soon as i get on it the car sputters and dies.i dont know why it does this but its been doing this for a week now. every time i try it when its cold it fires fine. it seems maybe im losing spark when its under load. i have fuel going to the engine so thats not an issue. brand new carb. brand new distibutor with module, and new coil. i need an answer!!!!! thanks

I'm sure you've checked for voltage (12vdc+) and connections at the distributor - right
HEI's can be very sensitive to low terminal voltage levels.
Does your car have a Locking Torque convertor? If so, is is working correctly and unlocked at idle?
Lastly would be some sort of secondary voltage leak through the coil/cap/rotor/??? - this may not jump to a ground path until the system in under load. Look for burnt marks in the coil mount area, the coil to rotor button hole area and on/around/under the rotor itself.
Don't discount the 'new' coil being bad either - I've had a couple bad cheapo's over the years ...

Hope some of this helps

I don't believe it's the ignition system!:noway:....You need to check the choke to make sure it's opening up all the way when the engine is warm!:thumbsup:

Can you "feather" the throttle and get it to run at higher RPMs? I'm with Ron, sounds carb related.

Ron u must know what it feels like to be a genius. That was my problem. the electric choke mechanism was turned so it was staying closed. u were right. Thanks!
