I found out today the TPI 700r4 I got from my buddy is a lockup style. When I bought it I thought it was non lock up and slipped in a non lock up 3000 stall. I am going to send it back to get a lock up style. Here is the question , Do you think I should keep my cam 286/490 236 at .050
and stay with the 3k stall....Or go to the 274 extreme and run the 2500 stall. Rear gears will be 3.73's. I will be using the car for cruzin' and grudgenight stuff at the track. With the right suspension do you think the car could 60 foot say 1.6's with the mild 2500 stall??

I'd go the other way - get a really good lockup converter that stalls in the 3500 range. Something like a Yank or a Vigilante. You can really feel the difference in torque multiplication, and you can do full throttle lockups. When you set up your lockup circuit, make it possible to lock the converter in any gear. That way you can cruise in third gear with the converter locked.
The 1.6 60's will depend a lot on traction.

I'd keep the cam and go with a lockup stall like onovakind suggested. I agree with his aproach, the lockup converter is worth a couple tenths ET and some MPH in the quarter.

The tech guy at hughes said the converter locks up in 4 th gear only. This is the way TPI sets them up. Can I change from that style to a manuel lockup??

If it's an electric lockup solenoid, you can turn it on whenever you want. You will need to get into the pan and trace the wires out. I control my solenoid with a latching relay, about $10 from Radio Shack. The relay latches on when I push the lockup button, and unlatches when I step on the brake.
