I am restoring my plain jane 68 and I am wondering if anyone knows how I can install head rests? I know that there were not many 68's with head rests but I have seen at least 2-68's with head rests and I really like the look. So far I have been unable to find 68 head rests or seat frames? I am assumming that I will need to find used units? What is the chance of that? If anyone has any advise or suggestions I would really appreciate it? Thanks

Use 69 seat backs and cover with the 68 upholstery. 68 headrest seats are very rare and you will pay a premium for them. This is probably the cheapest way out.

With the latest research done from bertfam on this topic, Mike's right on the money.

Thanks guys good advise for sure. Next question. Does it make more sense to try to find just the seat backs from a 69, or just find complete seats (cost)? I am assuming that all I have to do with the 69 seat frame is swap out the foam and put on 68 covers, unless the foam is the same? Also assuming all of the hardware bolts right up? Obviously it sounds like the only difference between 68 and 69 is the covers, possibly foam?

I bought 69 seats from ebay ($200) and put 68 seat covers over 68 foam and recovered the 69 headrests. The 69 headrests are a bit different than 68, but you just can't find 68s anywhere. By the way, its very hard to put the covers on the seats and headrests. I had to take them to an upholstery shop. You only need to change out the seat backs. Only the seat backs have different foam.
