View Full Version : Centerlink/Draglink question???
blackl78 Jan 9th, 09, 04:15 PM Is there any real adavantage to having the larger ( I think 1-1/16) centerlink over the smaller 15/16 standard one? I may not have the thickness right on either of these, but Ricks has the standard and the heavy duty ones. I have a nice standard one and had it blasted already and was going to get it powdercoated, but didnt yet in case I should upgrade to the larger one. Im building a protouring 67 camaro convertible.
Watch ya think??
butternutz68 Jan 9th, 09, 05:31 PM Travis, I believe the larger one is for power steering, smaller for manual steering.
Fred Ficarra Jan 9th, 09, 05:38 PM I thought the larger was a race version.
My original is smaller of course. It still has the factory original paint smears on it. And it's perfect. (I try to limit my road racing)
BigBlock1969RS Jan 9th, 09, 06:37 PM I though the difference was between Small block and big block or late model, least according to Pozzi's web site:

http://www.pozziracing.com/Media/6769draglinks.jpg
Upper center link is a 67, lower is a 69 Power steering unit. I believe all late and big block PS center links were the heavy type.
Small center link is .950"
Large center link is 1.125" GM#3953221
HOGDADDY Jan 9th, 09, 06:51 PM I bought a nos one years back and have yet to install it, but I have incorrectly referrred to it as Z28 center link.
I figure it couldn't hurt to use the bigger bar.
Whether or not there is a noticeable difference I have no idea.
TOM BARKLEY Jan 9th, 09, 08:25 PM My 69 big block P/s has the big one and my 69 Z manual steering has the big one
mean buzzen half dozen Jan 9th, 09, 08:50 PM My plain jane 69 Camaro 250 CI 6 cylinder car has the larger one.

blackl78 Jan 10th, 09, 09:33 AM I asked about this because I was worried that with the larger tires and wheels and the pro-touring setup that there may be some deflection or something with the smaller one?? Why did GM go with larger ones??
blackl78 Jan 10th, 09, 09:41 AM What size center link are you guys running? I have the standard size (smaller one) and wanted to know if I should upgrade to the heavy duty one(larger one)?? Here is a link to another thread with pics.

Thanks!
zman1969 Feb 24th, 09, 12:31 PM Don't know you would notice much difference in a max effort road race car maybe. I remember reading that the thinner ones would bend after a few wheels up launches- the landing causing them to bend. wonder what the weight difference would be? If I had a choice I'd go H/D but im not losing sleep with whatever mine has.
