View Full Version : 3000 stall too big for the street???
Joes67ss Jan 9th, 09, 07:59 PM I was planning on putting a 3k stall?? Would that be too much for the street???The car gets driven 2 to 3 times a week max and usually just around town..Every now and then on the highway but for no longer than 10 minutes...Any input on whether I should or shouldnt would be great..also if not a 3k stall, what size would you recommend??thanks so much!!!!

HarleyD67 Jan 9th, 09, 10:41 PM in addition what trans? and also more info on the motor.

X3:thumbsup: With a well matched combo, I used a very efficient 3400 stall non-lockup converter in my daily driven GN without issues.
68rs406 Jan 9th, 09, 11:25 PM Definitely would help to know your combo better, but unless it's a totally mismatched converter for the rest of the combo, 3K is nothing really. Plus, is it even going to be a true 3K? That would depend on the converter rating and the motor, tranny, rear gear and car weight.
I had a converter that was about 3200 real stall, and it was a piece of cake to drive. Unless you are on the throttle a stall will just ease in smoother with a bit higher rpm, it's not like it will see 3K everytime you pull from a stop light. And if it's a motor with a big cam, etc. it will actually make it better to drive, it won't try to stall or pull through when stopped in gear.
I run a 4K stall in my 406 and I have no issues (it's all personal opinion of what is too much though), just run a good external cooler and drive.
DOUG G Jan 10th, 09, 03:44 AM 3000 stall here and no issues even on a 20-30 min. drive to the track (unless there's a radar trap :D)
I need to go 4500ish with this new cam.... maybe one day :(
rlyfst1 Jan 10th, 09, 06:50 AM With the right motor no problem. I also run a 3000 RPM converter on my "grocery getter" with no problems. Just make sure to add a trans cooler to your set up.
Joes67ss Jan 10th, 09, 10:53 AM motor is a full roller 383,10.5:1,280H comp cam with 280 duration and 480 lift,M22 tranny and a 12 bolt rear end with 4.10s....sorry guys I guess I shouve have posted this info the first time..
67 Plum Jan 10th, 09, 11:20 AM M22 tranny

Badbird Jan 10th, 09, 11:40 AM motor is a full roller 383,10.5:1,280H comp cam with 280 duration and 480 lift,M22 tranny and a 12 bolt rear end with 4.10s....sorry guys I guess I shouve have posted this info the first time..
Your set up is ideal for a 10", 3000 stall converter, if you're running an automatic tranny, and will be fun to drive!....Go for it!
HarleyD67 Jan 10th, 09, 09:19 PM Ditto on the 3k stall being a good fit for that combo. (again assuming you change to an auto)
Pro-Street69Camaro468 Jan 11th, 09, 10:50 AM My 8" converter was 4500 and had it redone and the guy who did it needed the cubic in,cam specs, trans, gear in rear, and weight of car.He said he tightened it up to about 3200.My question is what is the procedure for checking what rpm it stalls at.

Back a few years ago we had a th350 with a brake and had some trouble with it drifting forward while staged this may not be a problem today but it was for us.This was about ten years ago and have heard some sayit still occurs.Just a thought.
Fast Jack Jan 15th, 09, 12:23 AM My 88 Bronco has a 3000 stall in it.
SPARKY69 Jan 15th, 09, 05:09 AM 3000 stall would be ok but you would have to loose the m22..
