Hi, guy's I have been reading these forums for some time now, and now it's time to join.

I have a 67 camaro 350sbc with a tremec tko600 trans, I want to change out the shifter to a Mcleod but can't find the application or part number on there site. Anyone know what part number? I bought a console on criags list and want to put it in the correct position.

part number is MCL-81-30302402F and is available from summit also MCL-81-30302402F Jim told me about getting it from summit instead at the time I bought mine, but it may have been because of the back order on the shifter too, I cannot remember

Here is the Mcleod shifter for $199 for a 67 camaro with a tko-600. I bought one from these guys for my 69 and it works great.

Other than the fit to clear the console, how much better are these shifters when comparing with what comes on the stock tko?

I just put mine in over christmas, so not a lot of time with it yet, but it seems to work well. It shifts nice and is centered in my console. I was working with Tom on this one as well. He said it is the genuine article Mcleod shifter.

Here is a quote from the email Tom sent me.

"the shifter is made by Red Roberts who originally designed them. When he sold his company(McLeod) to B&M who owns Hurst they copied his design which they call the “Sidewinder”. Red who now owns Drive Line components still call his design the Slix Shifter."

So there you have it.

Well , my tko has been out 9 times over the last few years and I will just have to wait until its out for what ever reason to try this shifter. My stock shifts great, stirs like butter, just wonder how much better can you get. No, not racing this.

Oh no, why was it out 9 times? Is this what I have to look forward too?

Mcleod is better than the stock hurst on the TKO 600. Placement is the biggest advantage and 2nd-3rd shift!

AMP was originally working with CC5, thats where my TKO came from when I purchased through cc5spd.

$199 is a good price

Sorry guys, did not mean to scare anyone, there were no TKO issues when I pull them. I go for teardowns like you may go to movies. I pull almost every year and a few times in between , at least up to my age now. I have swapped motors, bellhousings and headers over time, had two oil pan leaks that I had to pull as pan would not come out with motor in car but would , if I disconnected stuff but with the TKO having a taller body , it hits the floor tunnel , thus limiting me to the amount of room I have to work with. So its much easier for me to pull everything, put motor on stand , go for internal inspection, new pan gaskets etc, then on the clutch side, I always change T/O bearings and mic the clutch disc, if it falls out of my acceptable tolerance, Put a new CFII disc. I am used to this stuff as when I was in my race program, it was teardown , just about every few weekends. Only other helping hand I have is my wife, she helps lifting hood off, onto roof.

Only until recently, some of you fine members introduced me to the "engine leveller", thus allowing me to mate eng/ TKO, all on the floor , and shoehorn assembly in , one shot, what a back saver it is. Oh, yes , I do have a cherry picker.

I found that installing the TKO into motor , out of the car, resulted in NO damage to the pilot bearings and less tools having to be picked up across the street , in the neighbors yard, when thing didn't go right.

As for the TKO shifter changes, I have been giving thought to making my top part of the floor tunnel, removable, you know , like the Lenco guys. It would be easy, just find someone that cut out all their old floor and use the tunnel . Or even ordering a tunnel section.

Actually, we now manufacture a line of bolt on offset shifter called "ClassicFit" - part of our low cost TKO kit.

I'll attached pictures below. The shifter is $150 outright for Team Camaro members, and only $100 upcharge to upgrade from the standard Tremec shifter.

We used our PerfectFit internal offset transmissions - a proven no cut, correct driveline angle design - to develop the ClassicFit line of shifters.

O.k. I feel better now. You had me a little worried that I would have to be ripping this thing out of the car every few months for some future problems. :hurray:
