View Full Version : 1 1/2" primary headers?
Melrose RS Jan 10th, 09, 07:26 AM I'm thinking about putting headers and new exhaust on my car. Right now I have stock manifolds, dual pipes(stock, 2 inch I think) and single cross-flow.
Does any company still make headers for a firstgen with 1.5" primaries?
Would a 1.5" primary provide better torque than 1 5/8" primary on a street driven, mild 327?

onovakind67 Jan 10th, 09, 08:03 AM 1-1/2" primary tubes will work very well on a 327. Jack Burns designs them for small block Camaro cars running NHRA stock classes.

I don't know of an OTS pair that has a full length set of 1-1/2" primaries with an appropriately sized collector.
67CamaroRS/SS Jan 10th, 09, 08:42 AM If you want to get the most low end out of a set of headers, then you should try "Tri-Y" style. Long tube headers help, but they give the most gain in the upper RPM range. Tri-Y headers MAXIMIZE low end.
zdld17 Jan 10th, 09, 09:06 AM Charlie, from the looks of his signature, he also has a P/g car, if so , we know TriY will not work with factory linkage?
67CamaroRS/SS Jan 10th, 09, 10:43 AM That's right. Damn I forgot all about that. We definately know about this one, but what if it's a different company? Is Thorley the only company that makes Tri-Y's? I don't know.
Melrose RS Jan 10th, 09, 11:43 AM I checked Jegs and Summit. I don't see any 1.5" long tubers. I have a PG now but intend to move to a Tremec so I need something that works with either. I only want to buy them once.
Thanks-

I had TriY with my TKO. You have mail.
pdq67 Jan 10th, 09, 02:56 PM I think E-brock 4-tube headers may be 1.5" primary going to 1.625" but don't really know for sure?

novaderrik Jan 10th, 09, 10:36 PM either Hooker or Hedman makes 1.5" primary small block headers- i almost ordered a set last year for my Monte. they had 2.5" collectors and really long primaries- perfect for building torque down low.
the beauty of the small block is that they use the same headers for most older vehicles, so finding a set that fits is really easy.
