View Full Version : All new bests, 11.64@ 115.7
Lonnie67 Jan 10th, 09, 09:44 AM DA was 1350ft.
I went up 2 sizes on my primary jets. I changed my front end alignment a little. I set the "toe" with the front end raised 1 1/2". Now my 1/4 mph looks like it should.

I just had to do a little pouting since we got 8"s yesterday and another 6"s today.

paulm Jan 11th, 09, 07:40 AM By the way Paul, come on show use you times already. What are you ashamed???:boxing:
Oh no, not ashamed...I just didn't have any new bests. I made three passes:
First pass:
.022 Reaction time
1.885 60 foot - no traction
12.30@110.49
Second pass (vs Lonnie):
.067 Reaction time
1.617 60 foot - spun a little, pulled the front wheels though, bounced hard when I lost traction!
12.10@109.24
Lonnie crossed first by .5654, I bounced off the rev limiter in second...messed up that pass.
Third pass (vs Lonnie):
.025 Reaction time
1.639 60 foot - Spun a little, pulled the front wheels again!
12.01@110.69
Lonnie crossed first by .2902
HarleyD67 Jan 11th, 09, 08:13 AM Very nice reaction times and some real good 60's Paul:thumbsup:, but aren't your times getting slower? I thought you where in the hi 11.'s?
paulm Jan 11th, 09, 08:25 AM Very nice reaction times and some real good 60's Paul:thumbsup:, but aren't your times getting slower? I thought you where in the hi 11.'s?
I have made four passes in the high 11's (11.99, 11.99, 11.95 & 11.96) and it takes a near perfect pass for me to get their. A little spin or any other misque and I don't make it. I think it's all in my cam that's on a 114/110. I am going to a tighter cam 108/104 that hopefully will make more peak and midrange power and make 11's a more regular occurance for me.
P.S. Friday night drags have been my chance to practice on the tree in preparation for the next bracket race. I'm hoping to do a little better at my next bracket race, which will be my second ever.
madmax87 Jan 11th, 09, 08:59 AM Hey Paul, I know where you can get a 427 but needs a little work (Bob's)
paulm Jan 11th, 09, 10:53 AM Ha...427 on it's way to being a 496!
Skeeter55 Jan 11th, 09, 10:55 AM Ha...427 on it's way to being a 496!X2 :beers:. What combo have you decided on...
paulm Jan 11th, 09, 11:10 AM X2 :beers:. What combo have you decided on...
That's not my motor, I just have a little 385. Our friend Bob hurt his 427, so he has decided to upgrade it to a 496.

Do you know what combo he is going with?

So far all I know is he is going with a set of worked over GM rectangular port heads and a flat tappet solid lifter cam (no specs yet).
madmax87 Jan 11th, 09, 11:43 AM Met Bob at Pavillions last night. Place was crazy. Barrett Jackson had their trailer there and were giving admission tickets to raffle winners.
Dougs72Nova Jan 11th, 09, 01:20 PM Great job Lonnie! I'm gonna chase you down in the spring once i get my efi going. LOL.

We have to race in the winter, it sucks in the summer. I ran it twice in May and didn't run again until October.

Ok that helps a little. :noway:Even in the summer here I try to run in the evening and at night. 80*+ with the sun beating down on the track sucks. I can just imagine how bad 90*+ and no clouds could really suck.
paulm Jan 11th, 09, 07:32 PM I can just imagine how bad 90*+ and no clouds could really suck.
You mean 110+???
If I go to the track in summer I take one of my air conditioned vehicles...like my diesel truck where heat doesn't slow it down so much!
Acidburn Jan 11th, 09, 07:59 PM Good to see you at the track Lonnie and congrats on the new best.
I had a new best myself: 17.831 @ 76.67

LOL, It's still 100* at 11pm.
Hey Tom, congrats to you too on the new best. Your 6 cyl is almost as fast as my Chevelle with a stock 307. 17.40's @ 78.
I was going to talk to you and look at your car before I left but you continued back to the lanes...
rmcamaro Jan 12th, 09, 09:02 PM Lonnie, Congrats! I love that you are continuing to tweak on it and this is good stuff for us to learn from. On your w'page you mention a performance valve job, did you have that done right out of the box or did they have some miles on them?
Lonnie67 Jan 13th, 09, 12:50 PM Thanks. I ran the heads in out of the box form for 9.5 years on my previous 383. I had over 60K miles on them. The guides are perfect still, just had them do the valve job and set up the new springs.
rmcamaro Jan 13th, 09, 07:00 PM Thanks! That's a testament to Edelbrock's quality. I've heard the original valve jobs aren't perfect but they are obviously at least decent enough to get you 60k miles. Where's your total timing now?
