I have an opportunity to pick up a GM 8.5 rearend out of a mid to late 70's Camaro or Nova I think. It measures 56" from backing plate to backing plate. Will this work in my 69? I am also running Boyd's Junkyard Dogs 17x8 on the rear. I dont mind the tire sticking out a little but I dont want half the tire hanging out.
Thanks in advanced for the help,
Brian

I think you may want to keep looking.

It could work but you may need to move the spring perches, and get different backspaced wheels. I'd keep lookin'

You want a Nova 8.5, not a Camaro 8.5.

56" plate to plate is too big to be a Nova, had to be from something else.

Year ......A............B.............C
68-79.. 42 3/4" ..53 1/4".. 60 1/4"
A = Mounting plate (center to center)
B = Backing Plate to Backing Plate
C = Wheel mounting surface (drum to drum)

Measure the overall width. The one you want is 60 inches over all with the spring perches 42 1/2 inches center to center. The '70 and later Camaro is 61 inches and the spring perches are not in the right place. If you try to use it you will put the springs in a bind.
