I dont think so.......I know it was not in 67 camaros. JOE58 Jan 11th, 09, 08:34 PM not in 67-68 Camaro but was in 69 Camaro First Auto L78 was the COPO 9738 -1968 Nova SS396 L78 TH400 freezined Jan 11th, 09, 08:37 PM 4 speed only I believe. Solid Lifter engines were manual trans, no A/C excluding COPO cars. Beginning w/ Gibb 68 Nova COPO's could you get an automatic behind a solid lifter engine. Fred Ficarra Jan 11th, 09, 08:52 PM Th400 with L78 & L79. Oh and 427's @425hp (COPO) and ZL1's of course. All got the same TH 400. Here's mine: Also known as a CX. What a close-up? http://epitomesrebuild.com/images/177.JPG OK, http://epitomesrebuild.com/images/178.JPG 69 L 89 RAG Jan 11th, 09, 09:42 PM CX Transmissions are heavy duty most transmissions have three bolts to attach the flywheel to the torque converter, the CX uses 6 bolts. It has an extra clutch plate, & has higher shift points. Needless to say these are rare since most high horse cars where 4 speeds. Z15CAM Jan 12th, 09, 03:10 PM I don't believe any American Chev's got the TH400 before 69. We had them in our 60's Pontiac's which had Chev Engines Labelled Astro Jets; how about a 67 Pontiac 427 with a TH400 to a 12 Bolt Posi sound ;o). I recall swap meets were our Pontiac TH400's sold like hot cakes to American enthusiasts that wanted them for their Chev motors. I think American Olds and Buick's had the TH400 but then the bell housings were different. An interesting Automatic was the TH375 used in a lot of station waggon's around 74. I believe it essentially had TH400 internals with a 350 out put spline. I could be wrong as I've always driven 4 spds because I could never keep an automatic in one piece and have never blown up a manual - a few clutch yes but not the tranny - LOL |
