Anybody using a stock tach setup with a LS1? If so I would like to know how to make it work. I am trying to decide if I want to go this way with a auto-x box to keep my stock gauges in the dash. Either way I prefer to keep the stock dash. I am already running 4 gauges in the console and will put the gas gauge in the center of the dash if this works. Otherwise it looks like I will have to hack the stock dash and put in some 5 inch Autometers. If anybody has pics and or suggestions along with pics I will like to see what others have done.

I ran into the same problem. I was going to go with the stock gauges, but I had an itch to do something different. I went with a custom built gauge panel in place of the stock one. I know thats what you are trying to keep from doing, so I will pass along what I found when I was doing my research.....
CLICKY CLICKY. (http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/browseproducts/Electronic-to-Mechanical-Speedometer-Box.html)
It converts an electronic signal from the LS1's computer and converts it into a mechanical drive for the stock speedometer.
Hope this helps,

The LS1 PCM can be programmed to provide whatever pulse per revolution tach output you require. I've seen it done plenty of times with other tach types.
All you would need to do is determine what input the stock tach uses, and wire them together.
Have you been doing the tuning yourself or are you having it tuned for you?

When we do conversions here, we just modify the tach signal within the ECU. IMO the best option for stock speedo is http://www.shiftworks.com/tailhousing.htm It is a few dollars more, but I personally have found it to work 1000X better than the electronic box. In fact, I have one I used, and removed in favor of the tailshaft adapater. If anyone wants it, it is $175, almost new.
