View Full Version : 67 camaro pace car
SPEEDYSS454 Jan 12th, 09, 01:43 PM Guys as we all know times arent the greatest now and i have a car im thinking about selling and wanted your guys input before i decide to sell it.. Its a 67 pace car that jerry m came a certified last year.the car has all the original floors trunk etc .the car has had new full1/4s(gm) ,and nos hood, header, fenders, core etc.im not sure with the market what i should ask for it... Has power sterring,disc,12 bolt etc..althou car is complete, but disassembled, has incorrect 350... The car still needs paint and restored.i do have alot of hard to find nos stuff for the car...
markspark Jan 12th, 09, 03:12 PM Im thinking $10K to $15K. More options more money. If it had the original drivetrain add $$$
The Sleeper 327 Jan 12th, 09, 03:22 PM 67 RS/SS pace car convertible, white with the blue deluxe interior. Pics would help, but certainly more than 15k with nos quarters on it and rust free floors. Not sure, but I will say around $25k......Post pics and need more info tho to give a better estimate, 15k and I will buy in almost any condition for that.

The 67s dont seem to bring as much as 69s, the market is weak, I have seen these cars bring $15 to $20K as projects (non matching) in the last year or so so I dont think I am too far off, if its an easy restore and the right buyer (the sleeper) you might get $25 but be prepared to hold onto it for a good while.
SPEEDYSS454 Jan 12th, 09, 03:51 PM On jerry m paper work on 8-22-08 he said he thought the car was worth 25k before we actually stuck nos 1/4s and the nos front sheet metal..i know the market is down but i think its worth more than 15k... I also have 2 69 pace cars and the 67 is more valuable in money to the group that like them...i agree 69 are my 1st choice in any camaro...but alot less true 67 are out there...this is to be # 7 of the cars and is in the reg.
markspark Jan 12th, 09, 04:05 PM If Jerry gave an appraisal you should stick with that. I was dealing on a 67 last year at this time and he was asking $15, thats where I came up with the figure, yours is an easier project.
Jonesy Jan 12th, 09, 04:10 PM I disagree. I think the 67's bring more than the 69's when it comes to pace cars and I would say your car is worth at least low $20K's. These do not come up for sale as often as the 69's do.
SPEEDYSS454 Jan 12th, 09, 04:40 PM No problem markspark and you maybe very well correct with the market the wasy it is but i do know that there are fewer 67 than 69...but i do think the 67s do bring alt more money than the 69s..but again it only worth what someone is willing to pay..... Thanks again guys,i may wait ti the end of the month and put it up here on the classified ads and see what happens ....
cjm465 Jan 12th, 09, 05:01 PM Did you see the one on E-Bay in this thread?

coke69z11 Jan 12th, 09, 05:12 PM Chime in over at www.camaropacecars.com. Those guys pretty much stay up-to-date on pacers. Good luck with sale.
The Sleeper 327 Jan 12th, 09, 05:25 PM Agree, the 67's come up for sale ALOT LESS. I don't argue at all with 15k being an estimate, but I think that would be a must sell price, not asking price. Like you said, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay. The market is down and here in WI it's winter and not many people with heated garages to work on the projects at this point. If you can, hang onto until the season rolls around to get a bigger dollar. Still interested in seeing pics of this car!!!!
69 L 89 RAG Jan 12th, 09, 05:50 PM I'm sure the value depends a lot on options. Is it a actual track car or a festival car? Automatic, 4 speed, A/C? One thing is for sure it cost a fair chunk of change to restore anything these days. Pictures worth a thousand words!  :beers:
skipdaddie Jan 12th, 09, 06:19 PM I would love to have a 67 Pacer. If I was able to do the restoration myself I would try to buy it. Unfortunately, a restoration is beyond my skill set.
SPEEDYSS454 Jan 13th, 09, 06:53 AM Guys thanks for the info...i think im just going to finish the car and see what happens from there.... I just have alot on the go and have 3 resto for people to have done for spring... But this car just has alot of cool stuff like tilt wheel,am -fm with multuplex, tinnted glass, rear traction bars,4speed,etc.... My wife wants to keep it now since i said something to her lastnight about wanting to sell it..... Gotta keep her happy... Thanks again
The Sleeper 327 Jan 13th, 09, 07:06 AM we still want pics, if at all you could post some pics that would be awesome!!!

69 L 89 RAG Jan 14th, 09, 09:04 AM Nice options, can't wait for the pictures! :thumbsup:Interesting is the C-1 Paint code? I thought the Norwood Track cars had O-1 Paint codes. Maybe you have a dealer display Festival car? My LA built Festival car is a C-1 also. Do you know anything of it's history?
SPEEDYSS454 Jan 14th, 09, 10:36 AM Yea jerry said the same thing.... I really dont know any history on the car...like to know some thou.... But the guy that i got it from a while back said it was a car aj foyt was suppose to get and didnt want it cause no a/c and was a 4 speed???? Have no idea.... I am planning on doing somereach on the car in the next coming weeks...ill keep you all posted... Thanks again

Not to fault you, but what he told you is nonsense. I'm sure you have already figured that out by now. That particular car is well documented and accounted for and has been since day 1. It will be great to see pix and watch your progress on yours.
orgsretep Feb 15th, 09, 06:28 PM Chuck, is AJ's car in a museum or in a private collection? I have heard many different stories but none have ever been based on facts.
Mark C Feb 15th, 09, 09:10 PM Neither the original car that AJ turned down, nor the one he was actually given (if he actually got one) later in the year have been accounted for. The first one was a small block, probably an 0-1 coded car made early in the production timeframe for the PCs. The later one was suppossedly made during the run of 06C pace cars that went to Canada, but since it didn't actually go to Canada theres no record of it in the Canadian documents for these cars. There are some stories that A.J eventually gave it to his housekeeper, but he's been asked about it and claims he doesn't remember the car, or what happened to it. Maybe he never got one at all, afterall he was a Ford guy back in the day.

As in the words of Homer Simpson, dooooohhh!. I'll take that back now. My spaghetti memory was mistakingly referring to the Dan Young car. I stand corrected. Thanks and lesson learned for me.

This isn't 100% true anymore.
Chevrolet documents show that the actual original Pace Car that was to be awarded to the winner of the 1967 race was to be one of the 3 Specially prepared L78 cars that were originally made for the 1967 program.
According to first hand accounts and additional Chevrolet documents only two of the three original cars were delivered to Indy in 1967. These three cars were considered MODIFIED by Chevrolet, therefor, presenting one of them as an Award to the winner of the race was no longer possible.
The replacement, may or may not have been found, this is open to debate... The original car was indeed a Big Block Convertible believed to be a L35 4N coded car.
This car was given to AJ at the Victory Awards Banquet but was left at the Pace Car Headquarters at the Speedway the next morning by he or his people.
This same car was then purchased by Jack Bell, the General Manager for the Indianapolis Zone, for his wife. They owned the car for about a year and later sold it back to Chevrolet where the story pretty much goes cold.
I have interviewed every surviving Chevrolet Indy Zone manager that was involved in the 1967 event.... They all claim that "Chevrolet's Commitment" included 3 Big Blocks and a fleet of Small Block Cars that were to be used by the Speedway Program. This same Speedway Program included Cars # 90, # 91 and # 92. Number 90 is "TRACK 2" and Number 92 is "TRACK 1" and Number 91 was the GIVE AWAY car.
Numbers 90 and 92 are documented to be still with us today, number 91is NOT DOCUMENTED as being still alive today, however, every single Commitment Car used by Chevrolet in 1967 can be identified by a Date Stamp on the VIN tag. A "Mystery" Big Block popped up about 5 years ago that shows this very same Date Stamp on it's VIN... There is no denying that this car is SPECIAL but how SPECIAL is open to interpretation.
Based off of all the known facts, this car is either the original missing Big Block Car meant for the winner of the race or It's one of a two Big Blocks listed in this Assignment Letter that was put aside for the National Press! Which, is a whole other story all in itself!!!!!!!
Chevrolet did give a car to AJ... Why... Is still a mystery to any of the guys that worked the Indy Zone. !!!!!!!!!!!
Again a different story....
The Canadian cars can be broken down into 4 groups based off their COPO codes assigned to them and that can be found on their cowl tags. There is one portion of the 06C Canadian run missing....IS THIS AJ's REPLACEMENT CAR ........Only time will tell!http://http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k276/bigblockpace/WeldayAssignmentletter.jpg
Mark C Feb 16th, 09, 03:04 PM End result is, no one knows where either car is definitivly, and any claims to the contrary as of today are wrong.
As far as the Canadian cars go, the AJ car may have been made at the same time (probably was, only make sence) as these cars and it may have carried the same FSO number on the tag as the Canadian cars do, but since it wasn't sent to Canada it won't ever show up on Canadian paperwork, therefore it isn't really missing from the Canadian paperwork. Canadian paper work only reflects those vehicles transferred from GM to GM of Canada. If there was another one (or 100) cars built under the same FSO that went to other dealers in the states, those cars would not be documented by the Canadian paperwork, nor by the FSO itself.

I agree... the exception when it comes to 67's vs 69's is the Pace Car and the Z/28 . The 67 versions are very rare . It must be worth 20's
bigblockpace Feb 16th, 09, 04:11 PM End result is, no one knows where either car is definitivly, and any claims to the contrary as of today are wrong.
Sadly true!
The Big Block that I mentioned in the above post can only fit in one of the two scenarios that I mentioned...... THERE ARE NO OTHERS!
The original motor and Tranny are all long gone and the original 12 bolt may or may not hold some clues to this car's history.
Keep your fingers crossed.....I have been workng on Service Records for all the 1967 and 1969 Festival Cars that were handled by the Indianapolis Zone! If this comes through, it should unlock tons of mysteries!!!!
And!.... It's to my understanding that the AJ car was delivered to AJ's Houston area offices in the Summer of 1967!
angelglo Feb 16th, 09, 04:27 PM i agree as stated by others that the 67 pace you described is probably worth in the 20's. if you would like to sell it for 10k. i really might consider buying it.
bigblockpace Feb 16th, 09, 04:29 PM Speedy...Can you post a series of photos of your car?
theChuckster Feb 16th, 09, 05:08 PM Thank you Tony. I'd rather back off then start a p....g contest on here. Kudos for your work.:beers:
