Does a 70 Camaro require a special window crank. I am having problems with the new cranks I purchase hitting the upper hard plastic part of the door panel. The upper plastic section lines up with holes in the door and attachs without any problems, but the cranks rub...not sure if I am doing something wrong or have the wrong cranks. According to the catalogs, the cranks are supposed to fit 70-81 and 67-69 look just like them also.

Thanks,

Mike

In 1970 they used different window regulators for standard and deluxe door panels. One has a longer stem. You will have to change out your regulators for the ones with longer stems.

Thanks for the info. However, I am still confused as it appears that I have standard door panels according to what is available in the Classic catalog. I have the upper black plastic pieces that say for "standard interior" and the lower "standard" door panels. Does the standard interior require the longer regulators? The catalog doesn't even show deluxe for a 70. So, other than the regulators, what is the difference in standard and deluxe interior for the 70 model camaro.

The deluxe upper panel had a strip of wood grain look to it. I beleive they are the ones with the longer shafts on the regulators. If your door panels are aftermarket it may just be one of the woo's about the way the parts were made. Do both sides hit or just one? Did they fit correctly on the old panels?

No wood grain trim at all on this car. The panels were off when I purchased the car. Both window cranks hit/rub. The upper plastic panels appear to be the originals with the lowers being new. Again, all upper mounting points line up and the regulators don't appear to have been changed or moved.

You may try new window crank handles . They may possibly be bent just enough to where they did not break or it could be possible that the inner metal framing the regulator mounts to may be pushed in a little. If thats the case it would be an easy fix.

I have been trying to cranks...they hit. I even tried bending an older crank to see if I could get clearance, but no luck. This one has me puzzled.

Could someone give me the crank stem length on the window regulator for standard and deluxe interior. Trying to verify which regulators I have.

My standard ones are almost 7/8" long. The deluxe ones are about 1/2" longer. Have you removed the door panels and check that the inside of the doors are not pushed in where the regulator attaches? If the doors were off the car before and laid on the regulators stems the weight of the doors can push the inner structure inward. It is something worth checking into anyway. Good luck.

Ok,thanks. I do have the panels off, but I haven't looked at the regulators to see if they have been pushed in...will check that out. I did manage to bend an old gm crank handle and it does clear now, however, I broke a new repro also...doesn't quite bend like the old stuff.
