Does the RPO tag always match the VIN with the 12437 and 12337 prefix, or are there times when it does not?
I know that can be the case with 68 Olds 442's, but am not sure on Camaro's.

No, the trim tag does not match the VIN. VIN determines original engine.

I just checked my cowl stamping and it matches the VIN SN... The RPO tag is different relative to the original engine. RPO code has a 4... vin has a 3..
Thanks!

Body tag.... I owned a couple of Buick GN's and got used to that term for the sticker full of options on the bottom side of the trunk lid.

Just to clarify, the Trim Tag is also sometimes called the Cowl Tag but its the plate near the brake booster on the firewall. Those numbers have info. on the trim colors of the car and interior style as well as build date of the body. The VIN on the dash tells you apox. when the car was built by the VIN number and if it has a V8 or 6Cylinder engine, it does NOT tell you which engine exactly, only V8 or 6 cyl.
The Trim Tag number correlates to a day that the body was made up and that apox. date correlates to the VIN but the numbers never match and are not supposed too.
When someone swaps a Trim Tag on a car, usually that Tag number wont correlate any longer to the VIN, which exposes it as a fake.
Under the cowl panel on the passenger side below the wiper arm is a partial VIN that should match the VIN on the dash.
There is another partial VIN under the heater blower motor box on the firewall but not usually visible unless the box is removed.
CRG (www.camaros.org) has tag reading info. you should read up on
