Did you have to drill holes for these?
Holes don't seem to align up.

By the way, Beautiful Vert you have there!! arocars Jan 16th, 09, 03:30 PM The holes were off on the aftermarket post I got too. Worse yet, the new part cracked about a month after I installed it. (No, I didnt tighten the screw too much.) 98blackburb Jan 16th, 09, 04:04 PM The ones I got from Rick's are almost foamy and soft. clips221 Jan 16th, 09, 04:17 PM I got a pair of Conv. posts from Rics also and I agree about the spongy and flexible feeling. They are not near as good quality as the original and the holes were slightly off. I have dug my originals back out and think I'm gonna get some interior paint and try to use them instead of the newby's. 98blackburb Jan 16th, 09, 04:29 PM I got a pair of Conv. posts from Rics also and I agree about the spongy and flexible feeling. How far off were your holes ? clips221 Jan 16th, 09, 06:02 PM the holes were off maybe .125" or so. I was able to start the screw at an angle and get it lined up with the hole and then kinda pull it around in place. Don't know how long this would hold up before tearing therefore I'm gonna try and use originals. I have bought alot of parts from Rics and some has been good and some bad quality. Good luck. 98blackburb Jan 16th, 09, 06:28 PM I hear you, I've pulled some old original stuff back from the shelf because there was no way some of that re-pro stuff was going fit and other times the re-pro parts go in perfect. DUSK BLUE Jan 16th, 09, 06:31 PM I did the same with starting the screw on an angle and it worked out. BTW I'm in Sarasota FL, thanks for the comp. 98blackburb Jan 16th, 09, 07:07 PM Thanks guys MLC Jan 19th, 09, 09:26 PM After reading the above, I might want to try to repair and refinish my originals. One of mine is cracked. Has anyone tryed this? THANKS! Mick johnnysalami Jan 19th, 09, 09:52 PM it's pricey but i sent mine off to just dashes and they did an outstanding job! several finished grade levels to choose from; you send yours off and then they quote you a price. you can have them refurbished up to 100 point concourse job. again, not for the weak of heart or pocketbook! justdashes.com RickD Jan 20th, 09, 05:50 AM How much was Just Dashes? Ebay has some if you want to spend $125 - $200 +. Sauron67MM Jan 20th, 09, 06:42 AM After reading the above, I might want to try to repair and refinish my originals. One of mine is cracked. Has anyone tryed this? THANKS! Mick Yes, I've repaired cracks in padded pillar posts and it was undetectable when done. J Stone Jan 20th, 09, 07:16 AM Maybe I have the wrong site, but wasn't there someone making these is carbon fiber or fiberglass ? clwilcox33 Jan 20th, 09, 09:36 AM Maybe I have the wrong site, but wasn't there someone making these is carbon fiber or fiberglass ? http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=130803&highlight=carbon+pillar johnnysalami Jan 20th, 09, 10:00 PM How much was Just Dashes? Ebay has some if you want to spend $125 - $200 +.[/quote] both mine were cracked on the underside center. just dashes did both for $325 at an A level finish. C level or daily drive was quoted at $235. Again, they will not give you a price until they receive and inspect them. They may also return them to you as non-repairable. prostreet69camaro Jan 21st, 09, 08:03 PM All the repos holes do not line up. You will have to redrill the holes. I would try to find a original set off ebay and then redye them. That is what I did. z06fromhell Feb 4th, 09, 04:55 PM mine from ricks where also off. instead of the angle on the screw method i redirilled. i was afraid putting it in a bind would cause it to tear since its so soft a material. looks great when done though...... 98blackburb Feb 4th, 09, 05:32 PM mine from ricks where also off. instead of the angle on the screw method i redirilled. i was afraid putting it in a bind would cause it to tear since its so soft a material. looks great when done though...... That's what I ended up doing, boy is that stuff soft or what ? Fred Ficarra Feb 4th, 09, 10:36 PM Yep Alan, it's only a screw hole. Who's gonna know? It's not like it's a boat? 98blackburb Feb 5th, 09, 02:55 PM How you been Fred ? stope4 Feb 5th, 09, 06:47 PM I had Just Dashes do mine and they came back with no holes. I decided not to put the holes in the new refurbished pillar posts since the fit was so tight. I don't think they will ever come off. Not sure why Just Dashes didn't put the holes back in there. maybe they did and I couldn't find it. Or maybe I was supposed to put the new hole in them. Who knows. I do know the screws are not a common headed screw. At least not one I could ever find an exact match to. Dave69Z Feb 8th, 09, 07:56 AM Mine have been in for a few years now and they were too short by about a 1/2 inchas well as having the holes off. |
