ive got a Older model holley street dominator single plane intake on my 454. (780 double pumper carb)would the victor jr make much difference in hp output or would it just be a waste of money.

are you sure you don't mean a strip dominator intake ? if i'm correct, the street dominator is a dual plan manifold, and the strip dominator is a single plan manifold. what rpm range is your cam best at ? the holley strip dominator has a power band between 4500-8500, and the victor jr has a power band range between 3000-8500, depending on which type of heads you have on your car. i would match up the intake which best suits your cam and that should be your better choice.

No the intake is definately a street dominator and it is a single plane. apparantly it is a older model. not sure what cam is in the car but it has a pretty nice lope at idle. the heads are stock high perf GM heads. the car seems to perform better above 2500 rpm. another thing to take into consideration is that i currently have 331 gears and next week i will have 411s.

i'm not positve but for the big block ist going to be called the VICTOR. the victor jr is for the small block. as for the difference i'm not sure i don't do alot of research on big blocks, most people around here run small blocks.

The old edlebrock street dominator is a small port single plane intake with a power range of idle to 4800. I have never tried one on a bb chvy but they didnt work very well for me on small blocks or an a 460 ford I used to have. The vicor, on the other hand, is a high rpm manifold...something like 3500+ rpms if I remember right. I think it is overkill for your application...a performer rpm will be stronger than your current intake at all rpms...especially above 2500.

Edelbrock makes a Victor Jr. for big blocks, oval and rectangular port. They rate the rpm range as 3000-7500 I believe. With a 454 it would probably work well. If you lost any bottom end (contrary to popular belief you may not), it would probably help you hook up. In other words, a 454 should have plenty of torque. It should really improve your h.p. above 4500-5000 versus the Street Dominator.

The question is, how often are you running the engine up there? As long as you have a decent amount of compression, cam, gears, etc. to work with that rpm range, I think you'll notice a difference. The old Holley street dominator manifolds weren't that great.

One additional thing, do you have the hood clearance for this manifold? It's 5.9" tall from the block to the carb pad. I'm not sure, but the Holley is going to be shorter.

Good point it might not fit. what about edelbrocks new Torker intake? it is for lower hood clearance and provides power in the 2500-6500 range. it is also a single plane and might be better suited for my application.
