I have a muncie 4sp in my 76 Camaro I purchased the car 3 weeks ago and I am getting a small grinding noise from 1st to 2nd and I am unable to shift down from 3rd to 2nd. It is using hurst linkage and hurst shifter. Does this sound like a linkage adjustment problem? Can someone help please.

Could be a weak fork bending or not enough stroke to release clutch. Should be some stroke from floorboard to point of contact when engaging clutch, not immediate contact.

Barring this, could be needing synchros and slider assemblies.

if proper clutch adj. is confirmed, then center adj. all shifter linkages by placing 3/16 drill bit or equivalant through the shifter throws aligning the shifter. then place all 1/2, 3/4, and rev, on trans. in nuetral position. then adj. rods accordingly. if it still grinds it probably needs blocker rings. they should come with a " small parts "rebuild kit. (cheap)the hard part is r/r-ing the unit. and dont forget new input shaft bushing in crankshaft end.
