I have heard many horror stories.. about burning up trannys .. but have also been told that if u release the lock craxck trottle wide open . let it return .. then lock the cable at that point you wontr have any problems??

hey, that will work and if you look up a vet site they usually have it spelled out pretty good. PS if it is the earily shifting into high gear too soon the r4 does, you can buy a small switch that fits in the wiring harness on the trans ($30.00) and that makes its shift 'normal". just in case thats what you are driving at.
