: 69 Pro Touring Service and Restoration
mark4re Jan 19th, 09, 06:12 PM Does anyone know of a very respected, trustworthy company I can take my 69 Camaro for service and restoration. I purchased the car from Flemings about 60 days ago, and the car has horrible headlamp wiring issues, oil leaks, and what I presume is radiator(green fluid) leaking every time I drive the camaro. Also, there is a horrible gas smell inside the car and permeates through my garage into my home. I want to hire the best company out there to fix the car. I live in Dallas, Texas and would prefer a service company here but if there is someone out there known to be the best, I have no problem sending the car to them.
Thanks,
Mark

i forgot to ask, have you heard of Jerry Macneish of Camaro Hi-Performance. I believe he is in Maryland? I noticed collectors use him to certify Generation 1 Camaros. What do you think of his restoration/service work.

It doesn't sound as if you need highly specialized help, at least for the problems you mentioned. The headlight issues can be solved ultimately by a new front lighting wiring harness. Check M&H for what you might need. The oil and coolant leaks are something that any decent SBC mechanic should be able to fix. These old cars, however, had fuel tank vents that didn't go through charcoal filters. Fixing the smell may require a little ingenuity, but is still pretty simple.
Musclerodz Jan 22nd, 09, 11:19 PM I am just north of you a couple hours up I-35 in OKC. Give me a call to discuss your issues. Maybe we can help.

There are some really good Camaro people here in the Dallas area that can handle any need you have with your '69. Here's a personal invitation to attend the North Texas Camaro Club kickoff meeting at the Railhead BBQ in Ft. Worth:
North Texas Camaros Kick Off for 2009 11:00 AM
2/28/09 at Rail Head B-B-Q in Ft. Worth
Just 1 block south of I-30 on Montgomery
Come to the kick off and then go to the
Ft. Worth Rod and Custom Show
One of the best is Car Craft in Garland. Sorry, I don't have the # handy, but Rodney is VERY knowledgeable about '69 Camaros.
If you want his # I'll get it for you

Although he hasn't done any work for me personally, I have been to Mike's shop and seen his work firsthand. He is very meticulous and I would recommend his shop to anyone.
Not to mention the fact that he is a great guy to buy parts from who has helped out a lot of people on this site as well as the lateral-g site.

Mark,
I would get in contact with Jerry and join the camaro club. A lot of the guys in the club are familiar in your area for shops to work on your car. They have been around a long time and also have a good news letter. I just wish our club in Houston was still as active.

I second this,I have talked to Mike over the phone and he was a great help to me.I think he will do you right.
tones2SS Jan 23rd, 09, 04:58 PM There are a lot of shops out there. I'm not sure about being in Dallas though.
There is a company called, COMPETITION SPECIALTIES, located in Mass. (They are in the middle of a pro-touring build of a 68 Camaro that is being featured in a magazine.)
There is also AutoKraft, Prodigy Customs, and others.
Some of the bigger name builders are DETROIT SPEED & ENGINEERING, (DSE) & FESLER. They may be a little more money, but you can bet your bottom dollar, that it will turn out EXACTLY as you want/tell them. (A very good site to go to is, www.lateral-g.net with TONS of info & great people!!)
I almost bought a 69 Camaro from Flemings. Guess, I'm glad I didn't. Is the car you're talking about, the black 69 Camaro SS with the LSx engine? It seemed really nice. That's a shame.
Anyways, GOOD LUCK!!!!
I sent you a private message as well.
