A buddy just called & said that he saw a post on another forum that there are plans to develop a drap strip in the San Francisco Bay Area. The plans are to develop the old Naval base in Alameda into an 1/8 mile drag strip, an autocross, and a motorcross track. There are plans to have the dragstrip up by June. The city is apprehesive about the safety issues concerning the drag strip. There are plans to eventually expand the track to a 1/4 mile. The city would like the public to express their interest. As I get more info I will let everyone know. Does anyone have any additional info? What I am telling you is what was simply conveyed to me.

If I was still in the south bay area I'd go just to visit the old base and see if my home pier was still there.

I had thought there was a strip Oakland side between Oakland and San Mateo bridge?
I'm thinking summer of 1971 - Hayward Airport? Famoso? Geez, years ago.

1 thing I really like about Phoenix is that there are 2 tracks locally.

I couldn't find anything on Google regarding it.
It would be nice though. I have serious doubts the idea will ever bear fruit.

Using the old Alemeda NAS for drag racing has been kicked around for years and years. There is/was a group of rather serious racers championing the efforts but I haven't heard anything about this in years.

Myth Busters uses this area for a lot of their experiments, there is an automotive swapmeet I think there a few times a year and Chevrolet recently used the area for a "Rev-It-Up" auto cross and driving instruction event.

That would be great! I haven't heard anything about it either. Why 1/8th mile? I will support it either way (if it's really in the works) but, I sure would rather it be 1/4 mile.

Eighth mile is less noise, less speed, faster program, meaning more cars or rounds, ran through, less property to buy/lease, etc., etc.
