I am upgrading my camshaft in my 540. Going from a 650 lift (250-260 dur)
to a 714 lift (260-270 dur). This is a Shafiroff motor and they sent me a
upgrade kit (Cam, springs, retainers, ect-things I can change without pull-
ing motor). Should I also replace lifters, trying to save a buck but if they
should be replaced, no problem. The current lifters have approx 5,000
miles on them. Also wondering if rods should also be replaced. The cam is
a solid roller. Thanks!

You can reuse your roller lifters, check each for free rolling and no marks on rollers.

What lifters are in it now? You're going to have a good bit more spring pressure with the new cam, lifters aren't parts to cut corners on. I'd get one of 3 - Crower Severe Duty, Isky Red Zones (roller or EZ Roll) or Morel.

I'd reuse the ones you have. I would think Shafiroff put high quality lifters in their engine, and if you bought the new cam and upgrade kit from them I would think they would recommend lifters if they thought new ones were necessary. If in doubt, give them a call and see what their take on it is.
