what are o-rings used for?
i accidently ordered dynomax SHORTY headers instead of normal headers, are these short ones any good or did i waste some money (again)?

O - the're used for all kinds of applications where a dynamic/malleable compression type seal is needed. Although most are round, they come in many formed shapes for special applications also. One common use in small blocks are the valve stem oil seals.
Shorty headers will tend to lose some midrange torque and move the peak power (HP) band slightly higher in the RPM range.
Total effect will be dependant on your engine design, tube size, collector length and exhaust system. If mid-range suffers you can add some collector length (if the tubes aren't to big) and they should work fine.
