: Another GM dealership closed its doors
TraxUnderground Jan 23rd, 09, 04:17 PM I'm bummed. Laffin Chevrolet in South River NJ has been around as long as I can remember and its gone overnight. I called there last week to see if they had the GM syncromesh oil for my TKO600. They did but I dragged my feet going to pick it up and when I got there a couple days later the place was closed up. My buddy a local mechanic said that he heard that GM wanted them to buy a huge amount of cars and inventory, or move the location to a more visible highway location. Doesnt make sense. Dont know the details but its sad that its gone. What’s this world coming too lately?
BonzoHansen Jan 23rd, 09, 04:50 PM Sucks, I used to grab parts there once in the while.

YUP...... Times up. My grandmother used to live right up the road from Laffin and my first house I bought was in Sayreville. They sure were there a long time. I remember the big flood when the place was 5' under water, LITTERALLY. A friend of mine was the fool who blew out their giant front windows with a bell tell truck trying to make it across the bridge. The wake from the truck blew out 2 windows :( After that I remember the STOP CRYIN TRY LAFFIN slogan
I wonder how many cool Camaro's and such they sold ???
bob
TraxUnderground Jan 23rd, 09, 06:32 PM Yeah Bob they've been there a long time. I grew up in Sayreville and eveyone knew the cops used Laffins parkinglot to snag you speeding over the bridge...no way to get away. I know....
My NOS 1/4's I picked up from a local guy had a Laffin tag still on them from 1972.

SRGN Jan 23rd, 09, 06:42 PM Gary, I live a few minutes away from there. There was an article about it in the Courier News a week or two ago. East Brunswick Buick-Pontiac-GMC on Rt 18 has been shut down for a while now too.
RobSS1113 Jan 23rd, 09, 06:45 PM Wow theres alot of New Jersey people in here .. I will get my texas butt outta here now.
sad that some chevrolet dealerships are dropping like flys, but yet they seem to make commercials making fun of the competitors. Karma sux

1white1 Jan 23rd, 09, 07:54 PM Sad news indeed. Hometown, local dealer had good service over the years. Even grandparents bought cars from Laffin (for when grandpa wasn't driving the milk truck).
AlexFolino Jan 23rd, 09, 11:28 PM ITs a total shame. I think the dealer i work for is the only place i know getting better from dealers closing. Castriota Chevrolet.

SY1 Jan 24th, 09, 01:54 PM Sad sign of the times. A friend is going to pick up a new 502/502 and new transmission from a GM dealer on the other side of the state next week. He's paying almost $15,000 for the 502 alone. I found it for $9980 on Summit for him. The GM dealer convinced him that if he had problems with it from Summit he'd just be out of luck as there would be no warranty. He's now going through with the purchase from the GM dealer. Problem is what happens when next month or 6 months from now that dealer is out of business? I think he's wasting $5000. I could build an entire 412 SBC for the money he's throwing away.

Wow, he must really like to throw money away. The 502 is awesome, but what is the dealer going to do if it breaks anyway? Same thing Summit would do most likely. ZI could see maybe paying a few hundred more, but 5000? I'm stunned.

Craig that's how I felt. He's buying it from Berger Chevrolet on Monday or Tuesday. I may have one more chance to change his mind. I just couldn't believe the dealer was almost $5000 more than Summit. Now Berger is a big dealership with a storied history, I don't think they're going under anytime soon, but the way dealerships are closing these days a warranty from the dealer isn't worth the paper it's printed on to me.

  That was funny!
Looks like the olde skool Chitown South Siders are alot like the Jerzey Boyz! :beers:
TraxUnderground Jan 25th, 09, 05:30 AM Geeeezzz...what are you kidding? Thats just crazy. If he's got money to waste like that I want to be his friend ? Seriously...the warranty should be the same as if you bought the motor from GM or Summit. Its still a GM product he is purchasing. I believe in this case Summit is just a reseller for GM and no matter who you buy a GM crate motor from it has to have a warranty. I would check with Summit first and if so save the 5000 and put it into something else.

They should meet summit's shipped price. That is insane.
hereitis67 Jan 25th, 09, 04:21 PM no you dont need to take engine back to where ever you bought it. when i bought my zz4 motor the warranty papers said that if a problem, bring whole car to nearest dealership of your choice. it was warranteed from gm not the person or dealer selling motor to you. the 5000 extra bux can go somewhere else in car.
SY1 Jan 25th, 09, 08:57 PM Thanks for the replies guys. I didn't mean to hijack the thread. I'll talk to him tomorrow once more. Berger Chevrolet has him convinced that he's got no warranty through Summit. I've had nothing but excellent service from Summit myself. They'd get my cash especially for the difference in the price.
