Conventional system develop only 24,000 volts when a car is running at 10 mph. But this voltage drops to 17,000 volts when the car reaches 100 mph. A detrimental 40% drop in voltage to fire the air/fuel mixture under high load conditions.

For that kind of money, you're so close to what Dave Ray charges to do his conversion (which uses easy to find parts in case something goes bad) I wouldn't even consider this kit. www.davessmallbodyHEIs.com . If you know your engine's specs, Dave will recurve it using his distributor machine, and it will be perfect.

If you want to do it yourself, the Pertronix or Crane kits are about half this price at Summit, and many folks here have used one or the other.

I believe the coil is the limiting factor, the higher the frequency, the less time to build EMF.

If you went into a dealership, looked at a $24,000 dollar car and the dealer offered to reduce the price by 40%, would you pay $17,000 for it? I'd only pay $14,400 if it was me.

And yes, using over the counter parts is alot better than specific parts.

I have a Crane XR-i module in my car, its been installed for more than 5 years now without any problem.

The module works fine for me, the installation was quite simple.

The only issues was that I had to file the XR-i module Aluminum Heatsink a bit in order to clear a clamp (in the distributor) that interfered a bit with the module.

It was really easy to install, did it with the distrubutor still installed in the car, plus I didn't need to disassemble my distributor.

I tried two of those things, and the others, then, wised up, and now, I just send my distributors to Dave Ray. I get the conversion done right, the first time, no problems. Eric gave his contact info, ask about what he offers, it is the good stuff.
