I just got finished installing a new belt system, NEW TuffStuff power steering pump and Hydroboost unit. Just have to say OH MY!!! THE CAR STOPS ON A DIME. Anyway, I just noticed that the Steering box adjusting nut is leaking slowly. I'm thinking from the pressure of the new pump. The one I had was pretty old. Is there a seal or O ring I can get to replace this? It kinda looks like one of those plastic locking nuts with the allen key in the middle.

Make sure you don't have any back pressure on the box. I hear the hydroboost systems need separate return lines back to the reservoir, - do not T them together.

How could I tell if theres back pressure? Also every instruction I read about installing hydroboost says T them as close to the pump as possible. Mines t'd 2 " away from it. I have'nt heard of anyone having these kind of problems so far. Also I could clean it off and then look at it the next day and it's a little wet again. ????

Update. I called around and asked about the lock nut. I was told to try and take off the nut without turning the allen. Put a dab of silicone on the threads and retighten it. When i took off the nut I noticed the teflon ring in the nut itself looked pretty badly worn. The nut went on almost all the way hand tight. I know from locking nuts once it his the plactic you cant move it by hand. Can I just buy a nut?

I'd give that a try, the allen can be turned down until you feel added resistance, but do it with the wheels pointing straight ahead, the box has a tight spot on center, you want to adjust it while on the tight spot. Most boxes need a bit of adjustment after 50k miles.

You can remove the lid if needed, pull the 4 bolts, remove the nylock nut, turn the allen screw clockwise, the cover will rise, there are threads in the cover so you will have to crank the allen until it''s off. There is a swivel ball end on the bottom of the allen attached to the pitman gear/shaft assy. The gears are tapered so lowering the allen lowers the gear and reduces lash.

Thanks. Is there a place I can find just a nut?

It's just a standard nylock nut, can't recall the size or thread, try a hardware store.

It looks fine thread metric.
