I have a 67 Camaro. The owner before me replaced the section of flooring where the front bracket of the rear leaf spring attaches. How do I figure-out where to correctly re-attach that bracket?

What is a "torque box"?The box the front spring bracket bolts into on the floorboard.

Thanks again for the reply. Now I know what the torque box is.All I need now is is knowing how to position it/them on my car.Like maybe so far from the center of my car , and so far back from the center of the front wheel ?

The torque box is above the bracket that attaches to the front part of the leaf spring. This area is shown on page 63 of the AIM (4, B1). If you don't have an AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual) you should get one. Most of the on-line parts stores sell them.

Again, thank you for the reply.Yes,I do have a 67 Camaro "Factory Assembly Instruction Manual".And on page 63 I can see the diagram of the bracket and floor section. But what I need is the "exact" location to put that bracket. Please help.

Robert, after checking my stuff I didn't find a picture that would help you. But that bracket that holds the front of the leaf spring can only go into one place. Do you have the floor removed? The replacement sheet metal should tell you where it will have to line-up.

Fred is right, your new sheet metal should have holes for the bolts and slots that the cage (J) nuts slide into. There is also a smaller hole that a tab on the bracket fits in. The full floors come with torque boxes installed. If you don't have the torque boxes on your floor, you can buy them but they will need to be welded in place.

Thank you, thank you, everyone for the replies.I feel very lucky to have the senior tech guys on the case. Here's the situation, the original part of the floor,on both sides, has been removed and replaces with flat pans.there is nothing wrong with the floor except I don't know where to put the brackets.Again , maybe if I knew the distance from the center of the car,or distance from each other AND the distance from the center of the front wheel back to the bracket I could mount these beloved things.Again thanks for the replies.

My car is in the paint shop so I don't have it to take measurements for you. I think the bolt hole closest to the center of the car is actually in the rear frame rail. Can you use it to locate the bracket position?

Thanks for the reply Daral. My frame rails are'nt the originals, nor in the original locations. My latest plan of attack is to order some leaf spring bracket braces from Classic Industries(part # 15007 & 15008).But I'm still going to need grid co-ordinates,like north & south and east & west,in respect to where they go on the floor pan.Soooooooooooo if someone, anyone, could help me with that I'd be greatly appreciative.
Stay tuned.

Well now! You're building a hotrod. Cool.
No reference points, so you'll have to make some. Point the front wheels straight ahead. Position the rear end under the car with the springs installed (with front brackets too) and assemble the rear spring shackles to the frame so as to help steady the assembly. Then from the center of the front hubs, measure to the center of the rear hubs. The dimension is 108". When the axle is square, use the front brackets for marking the floor and drilling.
OK guys, what did I miss? I know I didn't account for spring compression. Maybe he should let the body weight down but I'm not sure if the front mounts would like that???

Thanks for the reply Fred.It sounds shakey to me & last ditch.I think I'd rather go by proto type measurements.Hopefully someone could be so kind.Like I said earlier "I'd be greatfully appreciative"

After it's all said and done, please watch STOCK rear shackles at load w/ STOCK leaf springs (whatever they are) b/c you will need to position your front spring eye hangers forward enough so that the shackles don't hit the very rear STOCK unibody S/F cross member back by the rear bumper on full load or b/c of a hell of a bump..

O.K.,how about this? How far back from, lets say,the transmision suport is the long bolt that goes through front eye of the leaf spring.Anything, please just give me a distance and a referance point, anyone. Thanks

Well I'm quietly still waiting for a reply,but nothing yet.How about the distance back from the hole on the side of the frame by the trans to the bolt that goes through the front eye of the spring? A n y o n e , p l e a s e H E L P ! ! !

Close enough for Gov work.

33.75" from the top rear outer corner of my stock S/F to the front spring eye's bolt center! Measured the best I could on my side!

Hope this helps.
